He was one of the great players from the early 60's, his last few years were taken from him by dementia, but his contribution to LSU football was enormous.

Condolences to his friends and family.

So in 1961 no one thought shite about a 2 pt conversion in a 61-0 win.

We are such pussies now.

Wendell was a great player between Cannon and Stovall. He was later a star defensive back with the Baltimore Colts. where he teamed up with former Tigers DT Fred Miller and LB Dennis Gaubatz on some good Colts teams.

Super nice guy!! Loved LSU.
Great player at LSU and the Baltimore Colts. Played both sides of the ball for the Tigers, and he also was a kicker!!
RIP a true LSU HERO!!!

RB Harris and FB Earl Gros were a heck of a good backfield.

Gros, who died in 2013, was a bruising fullback (6-3, 220) and was drafted in the first round by Green Bay in 1962 and backed up Jimmy Taylor.

So many of the old guard are passing away.

But Jerry Stovall seems to be a healthy 82. Hope he’s with us a good bit longer.

He scored all 10 points in 1961 against #2 Ole Miss in the Tigers' 10 - 7 win.

I was 10 years old and remember that game. I thought monk Guilliot scored the td. I remember Stoval making a long run to set up a score. Bama went 10-0 and it was Bryant’s first championship. LSU went 9-1 and finished 3rd. Wish we had played bama that year.

Wendall Harris was a strong contributor to some tremendous Tiger teams, including the 1961 SEC Champions. Harris was recognized as a great punt and kick returner in the NFL. He was a versatile player--used at corner back on defense along with a few positions on offense.

May he RIP.
