Hernandez’s game-winning hit definitely hit the yellow line at the top of the wall.

Two questions:

1. Isn’t that supposed to be a home run? I thought I remembered that from past games.

2. If so, why is that a home run? Why don’t they just make a home run anything that goes over the wall?

The yellow line is just a visual marker . It’s supposed to help with seeing if the ball goes over it or not. For a HR, the ball has to go over that line.

National media: LSU has the best baseball fans in the entire country

LSU baseball fans: if the ball hits the top of the outfield fence, is that a home run?

Older posters can probably still remember that Busch Stadium II in St. Louis, as well as a few other MLB ballparks, used to have a yellow line at the top of the outfield wall that if the ball hit there it was a home run.

It seems obvious in hindsight that that was a stupid rule in the days before widespread video confirmation checking.

Real simple. Ball goes over and out it’s a home run. Otherwise, it’s not.
