How far is Trump going to let the market / bond fall

Before he drops most of this economic agenda (e.g., trade wars and attacks on Fed Chair, movement in the treasuries that are going to blow out the deficits)? Will he let the whole thing melt down to get his way? If inflation starts to run away will he change course?

Yeah man, he will lose every dollar you have to prove a point.

So few people these days have experienced a prolonged downturn in equities. They think stonks only go up.

Does 2022 not count? The market was a nightmare the entire year. I believe the s&p 500 fell 19% in 2022.

Oh I haven’t forgotten. But I wouldn’t call that prolonged. And incidentally I don’t think this one will be either. With all the recent rough spots we’ve had recently it has always snapped back and people have looked back on them as buying opportunities. Few people still in the market have experienced long term poor performance. Hence the freak out over what is happening.

Most people freaking out have no idea why they are freaking out, other than the media telling them to do so…hence them not freaking out in 2022z

Why is this a constant refrain.
This board, as well as pt, was littered with posts throughout 2022 lamenting market performance.
Hell we had people claiming in 2023 and 2024 that their portfolios were still negative under biden.

He better get this shitshow under control within 6-12 months, otherwise the democrats are going to have a fricking field day during the midterm elections. And they will win in a landslide because they are impeccably effective at messaging.

Because it is a pretty great example of the power of media driven hysteria and its role in public perception

Except it’s not true.
People on this board were freaking out quite a bit in 2022. Moreso on the political board.

If you think they are anybit comparable, then I think you are using some colored glasses to look at them.

He's got issues politically if he's losing someone like me and he is quickly. I've never voted Democrat in my life and was a Trumper almost from the start but I'm not going to walk along like sheep. This is very disappointing and looks amateurish and yes like just score settling at our expense. I'm mad as hell at myself for even thinking or posting this but I feel hoodwinked.

I referred to “most people”…your average Joe on the street has no idea about 2022 being a bad year. All of them are now tariff experts.

Oh, sorry. You meant the average Joe on the street that has no savings or investements and therrefore doesn't care what the markets do. Thanks for clarifying.

We had nearly 10% inflation and the market dropped over 20% from peak. The average person had no idea it was a bad year?
We had like 18 threads a day on it
