This is from 30 years ago but curious. Would the kids or spouse receive benefits if the dad took his own life? From what I remember suicide negates the life police?

I’d imagine there is an exclusion for suicide in every life insurance policy.

Most life insurance policies include a suicide clause that prevents the insurer from paying out the claim if the insured's death was due to self-inflicted injury within a certain period from the start of the policy (typically two years).

As bad as this sounds if insurance had to pay out for suicide then a lot of them would have went under along time ago.

The clause is generally within two years.
So, after two years of coverage, everything is usually covered.

This. I recently got a new policy and this was the new terms as well as my older terms. Suicide is still covered just not until 2 years. Seems fair enough to me, you can't get a new policy and kill yourself to pay out your family. But if you've had a policy for many years you are covered.

I'm pretty sure 30 years ago it was the norm to not pay out for a suicide but mine does. Like the other guys said, I think there was a 2 year clause in there IIRC, but I've had the policy 10 years now.

I think the two years is to ensure you are not currently going through something. Most people recover before that time frame ends.

Just to be sure, do you need someone to talk too?

Saw an episode on Dateline, I was surprised that they do cover suicide.

As is mine, my wife reminds me daily about it since hitting the two year mark.

This is what mine specifies.

I'm more interested in inquiring if you are ok brother?

That's a loaded question and I want to make sure the undertones aren't being missed here.

I'm available to talk if you just need an unjudgmental ear.

Y’all can hang together, kudos to you to show us that it won’t kill you to be nice. Shocking how depression works, drowning people in emotion; alternatively a person can’t OD on happiness.

Seriously, nice offer.

2 year contestability period in Louisiana.

After 2 years, you can't exclude for suicide (at least not in Louisiana).
