QuickBooks Alternatives?

A family member runs a small business that pays taxes as a single-member LLC, no employees. I help with the bookkeeping and it's pretty straightforward.
About every 3 years they'd get QuickBooks Pro Desktop at Costco or Sam's for $159, because Intuit would cut off Web Connect bank access on versions more than around 3 years old.
Those days of buying reasonably-priced QuickBooks software are over. You can no longer get current, paid-up QuickBooks licenses at retail stores.
Today QuickBooks sent an email saying that the annual cost for an equivalent desktop license is now $549.00 per year.
Can anyone suggest a better alternative?
ETA: I asked an accounting buddy about this. He said, "What are you nuts? $50 a month is dirt cheap for accounting software."

Fiverr bookkeeping gig could work. Maybe $50/ quarter But you won’t have QB anymore would just be an excel sheet you sent to tax prep. Depends on number transactions.

Go to Quickbooks Online. There are different subscriptions depending on several factors, like does the business have inventory, is job costing needed, etc.
On their website they have a table that you look at different options or needs and it tells you which subscription is best.
And I've several people tell me they like Xero better than QuickBooks for a small business, but I don't know anything about it.

Sage products might fit the bill. Not sure of the price point, but I use sage 300 at my office.

Quickbooks Online is good, simple start or plus should work for what you describe. Xero might a decent option to try.

Curious whether his version of qb will still let him download transactions from his bank or CC online and import as a web connect file?
It is frustrating how hard intuit has pushed for everyone to switch to online.
If not, maybe check xero?

It seems like QB is pushing online version and do away with desktop. I just renewed the desktop and I'll be damned if I can figure out how to remove my credit card so it doesn't auto renew next year.

Unfortunately, like my buddy in finance said, if you need double-entry accounting software that can issue PO's and checks then $50 per month is about the lowest you'll pay.
I checked a number of competing software offerings and even the sketchy-sounding products cost at least that.
It's frustrating to go from ~$55 per year a few years ago to $549 per year now, given that we don't want new features beyond what was in QuickBooks 2016.

Kim Commando addressed this Saturday.
She listed:
Gnucash
Xero Accounting Software
Wave
I think there is more information available at kimcommando.com

Our firm switched all bookkeeping clients to quick books online. I really like it, the most basic ones are paying like $30 a month or something for access.
