Plan was Orlando to Dallas. Went off course and there was no contact, similar to Bo Rein's.Crashed in South Dakota. His agent, Robert Fraley who played QB for Alabama in the mid 70s, was also on that plane.

I remember the coverage of that. Didn't they eventually send an F-16 or other NORAD type plane up to investigate and it found all of the windows fogged over, and that was when they knew it had depressurized?

What was really strange was I had a class with Larry Nelson's son at Auburn at that time, but there was never any talk about it in class.

I first leaned who Payne Stewart was through 1990 pro set football cards. I remember my friend saying about the card “that’s worth a lot of money”. I think it was $3 in Beckett’s back then. Good times.

We were talking about Payne a few days ago after that Dr. flying to Gonzales continued out to the Gulf of Mexico and his plane was never found.

i was on a commute bus of chatty regulars from Marin to S.F.

Hot woman stops her new car on golden gate bridge in front of us. Vaults the railing and is gone.

No one said a word the rest of the route. Not one word.

I rode to terminal.
Asked driver, did you see her jump? Yep.

WCW had an evil heel golfer named Pain Stewart at the time.

Quite sure this is some kind of typo, but yes the circumstances do/did seem similar except I think Rein's plane crash involved bad weather. Stewart's didn't...I think.

KSPR broke in and covered this nonstop during the flight. They then shut it down soon as they realized that this was not going to be a good ending. Stewart being from Springfield it was big.

Seem to recall other golfer(s) paying tribute by dressing like him and such.

Thought that was pretty cool.

The scene at the opening of the next golf tournament was very eerie. Cameras showed a fog covered first tee box with the sound of bagpipes in the background. As the bagpipes sound got louder, they broke through the fog.

Most awesome and somber moment I have ever seen in sports.

Tried to find video.

here is a photo

Yes and I believed they flew along with it until it ultimately plunged and crashed.

I remember watching when it was happening and I think the F16 stayed with it to shoot it down if it looked like it was going to hit a populated area.

They knew everyone was dead and it was just on autopilot.

This is correct. I believe they checked how much fuel it had from logs and were projecting when it might start to descend and if they thought it was going to fall in a populated area, they were going to destroy it.
