A bettor is risking $200k to potentially win $1,761, betting the Browns won't win the SB

(I laugh because 9-month CDs pay about 4x these potential winnings with no risk of loss of capital)

Yeah, this is retarded. Leave that money in a damn checking account and you'll earn that. Instead, the casino will be earning interest on that guy's $200K for the next 9 months.

That’s not much over the interest rate. Seems stupid.

I'd be willing to bet that someone bet him to do this.

There has never been a bet made in history more guaranteed

It's very likely a winning bet which is reflected in the payout, but that's not really the point. There's still a non-zero chance he loses it all...vs. putting it in a CD and making 4x as much return with 0 chance of losing it all.

I'm guessing this is related to some sort of rewards program the bettor is trying to achieve or maintain.

He's farming the airdrop.

One of those things as a bettor that irrationally makes my blood boil when people bet on anything at 99% or -10000 odds. Just stupid unnecessary risk
if there’s any benefit of the doubt though I will say from betting on Kalshi that they do pay out a 3.25% apy interest on open positions so maybe poly market does same and he’s getting interest plus any return the bet will eventually yield

Plus if the browns make the playoffs everybody will be completely shocked and happy for them. It will be a good story.
Unless you’re that guy
Not worth it at all

Maybe he’s a browns fan who will gladly pay 200 g’s for a title

The only way it is worth it

Even that doesn't make any sense. The move would've been, assuming the Browns make it that far, to just put $200k on the ML of whomever they're playing in the SB. Would like get 5-8 on that team which would be good for about $125k in profit (I'm assuming whoever they would face would be the favorite.)

I'm pretty sure that's how it works. I've never heard of people locking in odds and not having to transfer payment for the bet until the event is played.

This was an all-timer if it’s real.
