The Wildcats of Pineville (yes... formerly known as Louisiana College), which will be 1 of the last seeds in at their conference tournament in 2 weeks, went to Lake Charles & won 4-3 over the Southland Conference co-leading Cowboys

Baseball... can never take someone lightly

Also... how badly does this L hurt the Southland's hopes for getting more than 1 NCAA bid this year... the conference had some good things going

Does McNeese normally play lower division schools in regular season midweek games or was this a “fill a spot on short notice” game?

And suddenly LSU's win against McNeese looks that much less impressive.

This is pretty regular

They already played Dillard out of New Orleans, another NAIA, twice this season as well as MSB favorite John Melvin

Why did they change from Louisiana College to Louisiana Christian?

What’s it with Louisiana universities and needing to change names

Several other Baptist affiliated schools changed their name around the same time

Like SAGU in Waxahachie, Texas changed to Nelson University shortly after

The reason given at the time was they wanted to establish a graduate school curriculum. They also claimed that “college” implied a community college or technical college, whereas calling themselves a “university” sounded more appealing and prestigious.

SAGU or Nelson is affiliated with the Assemblies of God, not the Baptists.

Mississippi College is undergoing the same name change to Mississippi Christian University starting in 2026. It's a move to distance from the reputation of the 'College' moniker tied to Community Colleges and the like.

Yeah, being only a college has hurt Boston College, Dartmouth College, and Smith College

Yeah I think it has to do with "college" implying only 1 field of study while "university" implies multiple fields of study available

ETA: the reason I said Baptists changed their name was not SAGU... I was having a brain fart... it was Houston Baptist University changing its name to Houston Christian University shortly after Louisiana College changed to Louisiana Christian University

They’ll never get more than one bid again in the NIL era… cant compare the talent levels there to even 0-18 in the SEC Missouri

Yes conferences will be in tiers based on how much NIL they have in each sport

Lucky for them games against non-DI schools don't count in the RPI

It seems UTRGV and Mcneese are the only two that could get in on RPI alone. Under the theory that the other wins the auto bid. SELU appears to be right on the verge with an RPI in the 50’s.

SLU just won 2/3 against UTRGV last weekend

Missed that, also they are currently beating USM in the 7th. That would be an RPI boost for sure.

SLU should've beat USM in Hammond last week... had a 3-run lead in the top of the 9th with the bases empty & 2 outs... a single, 2 walks, & a grand slam later they were down 1 and ended going 3 up, 3 down in the bottom of the 9th to lose

ETA: the guy who hit the granny last week just flew out while representing the leading run to end the bottom of the 7th

So sounds just like Lafayette. Wanting to sound more prestigious than they actually are
