Arrayah Barrett, the 2-year-old daughter of Buccaneers linebacker Shaquil Barrett, drowned in the family’s swimming pool this morning. Tampa Police confirmed that they responded to a call of a child who had fallen into a pool at around 9:30 a.m. Arrayah Barrett was taken to a nearby hospital but efforts to revive her were not successful. “Today’s tragic news is heartbreaking for all members of the Buccaneers family,” the team said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Shaq, Jordanna and the entire Barrett family during this unimaginably difficult time. While no words can provide true comfort at a time such as this, we offer our support and love as they begin to process this very profound loss of their beloved Arrayah.”

So so sad.

I hope that the family is able to get through that. I’m sure it’s especially tough for the person that left the gate open or whatever happened to have the daughter be in that situation. Praying for them especially to not feel this guilt for the rest of their life.

Any time we've been house hunting and we see a place that has a pool, it's a hard pass for me. My worst nightmare as a parent with young children.

agreed, yet watch if they dont turn around and try to use her death as a motivational tool for the team.

i hate when shite like that happens, it just cheapens the death, yet it happens a lot.

I have a soon to be 2 year old. Safety fence with self latching gate is perhaps one of the best things I’ve ever spent money on. You hear stories like this and so many scenarios play out in your head. Curios as to how this happened but regardless, it’s absolutely terrible. A friend of my wife had their kid drown after they crawled through the dog door and wound up in the pool. Terrifying.

Have you considered one of those motion sensor alarms as well? Can’t have too many safety measures, IMO. I know I would if my kids were still little (and if we still had a pool).
