Edit - Excel auto formatted some cells below about the stages, so dates are wonky. I didn't catch it before uploading.

cyclingnews

Northern and western France are pretty much left out, as you can see.

It's not finishing in Paris. Finishing in Nice with an ITT.
From cyclingnews linked above:
The 111th edition of cycling’s biggest race starts in Florence, Italy on Saturday, June 29 and ends three weeks later in Nice on Sunday, July 21. It is the first time the Tour starts in Italy and the first time it finishes in Nice, to avoid the preparations for the 2024 Paris Olympics Games

The inclusion of two individual time trials for a total of 59km, four mountain-top finishes, a series of gravel sections on stage 9, and a final hilly time trial to Nice will surely create a more open race...
The route of the 2024 Tour de France covers a total of 3,492km with some 52,320 metres of overall elevation. That is 20% more than the 2024 Giro d’Italia ...

Two big takeaways for me:

1. No finish in Paris so no Champs-Elysees sprint and the last stage is a 34km time trail in Nice so the last stage won't be a procession to the last 2kms

2. IMO it is the hardest route in memory, it is going to be brutal, especially for the sprinters in the gruppetto. I imagine the broom wagon is going to be looking awful good to those off the back.

Bonus 3rd takeaway the PED magicians are probably going to be in high demand and can name their price you are going to need a Lance level daily dose to survive or maybe the Floyd Landis stage 17 cocktail AKA Jack Daniels.

Apparently Cav said this is the hardest TDF route he's ever seen.

The grand tours never disappoint. This should be a great one.

Hoping Lance or Horner do a video and discuss the route.

ETA - with Roglic going to Bora there is talk of a stacked field of contenders at the TDF. Chris Horner mentioned Sepp as a GC guy at the Giro, then riding for Jonas at the TDF, then who knows for La Vuelta.

Shorter gap from Giro to TDF, I believe, so I'm curious if they'll keep Sepp out of the Giro to keep him fresh for TDF and then let him have another crack at La Vuelta.

Chris Horner has chimed in on the route.

In that video he also discusses what the TJV DS said, in airing out some dirty laundry:
DS said there was tension on the team, especially after Stage 17 at La Vuelta (Angliru stage where Sepp had problems). Horner says DS throws Roglic under the bus, trying to imply that Roglic was being selfish, and this is done to taint Roglic a bit now that he's departed to Bora.

About the route, summarizing his comments:
Stage 2 probably takes a sprinter out of the yellow jersey.

Stage 3 is pretty tough.

Stage 7, ITT, could affect some of the top contenders if they don't do well, and cause them to really look at letting it all go on the later ITT if they lose time on Stage 7. And it will impact those later mountain stages and how the riders approach them.

Stage 9, he doesn't like adding gravel to a road race grand tour. But it will bring views and that's why it's in there. Could spell trouble for any of the top GC guys.

Never see 3 mountain stages in a row, only two. Total of 7. Says that 4 of the 7 are short days. Especially Stages 4, 19, 20. (Stage 4 is 138km, Stage 19 is 145km, Stage 20 is 132km)

With 4 short mountain stages, that does not play to Jonas's advantage, where he tends to thrive on longer mountain stages with repeated climbs. However, the last stage, ITT 34km, has two climbs, so that does suit Jonas's style and strengths.

Stages 19 and 20 should be action packed because they are so short. If GC leaders lose time, 20-30s, on Stage 7 ITT, it will play a role in how these two mountain stages are done. Riders won't want to go into the last ITT needing to gain lots of time.
