Hardly recognized Terry Funk.

So pyrotechnics worked back in 1989 but not in 2021. Pay your vendors folks.

Part of what makes this series so good is getting to see behind the scenes of the stories I know but also learning about stuff I've never heard. I can't believe Terry Funk is still alive, every time I've ever seen him on TV I was sure he was dying

Not sure if this was as true in 1989 as was in the late '70s but KISS will joke back in their heyday there weren't really professional pyrotechnics back then, just people that liked blowing stuff up. Maybe that was a better way to do it.

Last I heard, Terry was in horrible shape even for him and they had requested people stop sending items to be signed.
He was old 40 years ago when he first retired so he has to be in his 80s and likely has as many original parts left as Cher given the various hip replacements and so forth.

I think he lives at a nursing home or assisted living facility due to dementia

I think he gets home health and/or hospice care.
Sadly, his best days are behind him. He has good days/bad days with his dementia.

He was 54 when he had his "retirement" match against Bret Hart in 97 that was in Beyond the Mat.

His first retirement I am aware of was the Japan retirement with the infamous “Forever!” speech. That was in 1983. By the next year, he was losing to Hogan in WWF.
But, yeah, if he was 54 in 1997, he should be at least 78 now.
