all these minor league teams are still running a business. Jordan and tebow provided way more attention than they ever get with a regular minor leaguer.

Sure they didn't earn it in a traditional sense but neither went out there and made a joke of it.

I am also sure it was worth it for their teammates and opposing players because they have elite conversation starters for the rest of their lives.

exactly...in the end its a business...period. people forget that, its the business of entertainment.

and like we said....neither were crazy elite but both did well. Far more former 1st round picks have done much worse.

With the DH and him playing decent in Double A, I thought it was at least possible for him to improve enough to be a .200 hitter with HR power. There are guys sticking around in majors with those numbers.

I remember so many people clicking on every Tebow article when he was in NFL to make a post complaining about why he was getting so much attention. Talk about irony.

just an example of popular 1st rounders lately

max clark is averaging 0.270 and hasnt made it A+ ball yet

Druw Jones is averaging 0.274 and hasnt made it above A+ ball yet

perfect example of killing in the SEC and sucking in minor league ball is
jacob berry...he is batting 0.238 in AA so far in 2 stops.

kramer robertson batted 0.227 and 0.231 in his AA stops

i dont think OP understands how good tebow was. if he went straight to baseball after college he prolly has a chance to play in the show. He made right choice for him but man...give the dude credit. jordan batted 0202 in AA

so make fun of Tebow and Jordan and call them stunts if you want but they did as good as many former top draft picks.

Certain athletes are just that, athletes. Maybe not excelling in one particular sport but really damn good, like Tebow was at the time. I haven't played baseball since HS, so if I put on a hitting clinic, no one would show. I'm also not a freak athlete like Tebow or Brock Lesnar.

It wasn't like Tebow was horrible and he kind of held his own up until AAA ball, where the talent got better.

He had only 1 stop where he ever batted over .233

Not likely, but he did play well enough to be in AA.

He batted .226 in A ball, .196 in fall ball. How does that warrant being promoted, other than name???

why are you mandating that ticket sales should not be part of a private business's decision?

In 2018, over the course of 84 games and 271 at bats, Tebow hit .273 in AA ball.

In 2024, over the course of 51 games and 186 at bats, Dylan Crews hit .274 in AA ball.

I never claimed Tebow was great, just that he held his own.

Random 20 somethings try out all the time for baseball. Tim Tebow wants to try out.... it's news, interest, ratings.

Do you think anyone wants to watch a 58 year old dude box a guy in his late 20s? Who would pay to see that? What if the 58 year old was Mike Tyson. There you go.

No need to be obtuse...

Hogwash! No team would ever sign a low risk high reward player.

Tebow proved he was a great athlete with a great work ethic and high functioning mental abilities while at Florida... he had size and mass to his advantage as well

Why wouldn't you show up for a BP, or even 2?

Dude clearly had an eye... was it a baseball eye? proven false, but his intangibles were there

If he solely concentrated on baseball, and never played football, I bet his hunger and his determination would see him though to the bigs for a year or more....

Eventually
