Imagine him as a WR.
He reminds me of Randy Moss.
Elly is 6'5" 200lbs
Randy Moss was 6'4" 210lbs
Would be curious how his 40 time stacks up.
He obviously has top end speed.

Sporting News-

Elly De La Cruz 40 time
While MLB does not have a 40-yard dash like the NFL, there are plenty of ways to measure his speed. Last season, De La Cruz was the fastest player in baseball with an average sprint speed of 30.5 feet per second, tied with Royals' Bobby Witt Jr., according to Baseball Savant.
Based on a speed of 30.5 feet per second, he would run a 3.93 40-yard dash.

Hypothetical question. If he was thrown out at home, could that be reviewed for interference when the guy on 2nd tried to grab his leg w his glove

It must be nice to see your goal in front of you, and disregard any thought of failure; no matter what the situation.

agreed. he's a throwback.
it's hilarious watching these new-age pitchers looking so surprised that he stole on them while they kicked the dirt, scratched their nuts, and played around with the tip of their hat three different times

stop all the grab-assing and play ball

Catcher may have gotten him if he didn't catch the ball so far in front of the plate.

He's fast, but c'mon.
That speed is tracked for a player's fastest "one-second window". Obviously very different frome running a 40-yard dash, which includes the start and drive phase leading up to getting to top speed.
Author seems very sure of himself, though. That's one problem with all these numbers that come from analytics. Numbers are so precise that the uncritical minds who don't question and apply context have plenty of conviction that the numbers are exact. But oftentimes they aren't.
At least Bill James is comfortable with uncertainty. The devout followers of analytics should also take that page from his analytics playbook.

I believe in that situation he would have only been awarded third base, so whatever he does after third base is irrelevant to the call

nah dude elly de la cruz is faster than every nfl player ever by multiple orders of magnitude. sorry, that's the only explanation.

Meh, the effort by Milwaukee is pathetic
Basic fundamentals are lacking. A guy got picked off by a hidden ball trick recently. You have to be stupid to even remotely get fooled
