This gets brought up all the time, but it continues to just be one of the dumbest recurring production aspects from a network known for dumbass recurring things.

Real question, who at ESPN thinks it's a good idea to place a giant yellow box on the lower right corner of a football broadcast, so it looks like there is a flag on every play from your peripheral vision?? The network also uses yellow lettering and graphics on its MNF broadcast and even thought using gold graphics on the national title game last year was a stellar idea. They simply keep doing it.

There's obviously a reason no other network uses any shade of yellow unless they are indicating a flag.

Real question is, why do we still have to have a running ticker in 2021 when everyone has a phone? Get rid of everything except for the score, down and clock.

Why does it need to exist at all? We all have devices that allow us to instantly check the status of every event in the world. It hogs the bottom of my screen and spoils DVR’d games.

They made the down market for Monday night footballs opener a few years ago a yellow solid block background. Every single play my brain kept thinking flag. It’s infuriating. How a producer or someone smart doesn’t come and say cut it out is infuriating. So dumb.

Why are two FSU players face planting into the ground?

To be fair, it's an ad so if it's drawing your eyes constantly it's working.

When they minimize it to show stats it’s perfect

There's less yellow in the the basketball graphic (none) than their football graphics. And in bball, it doenst even matter because there are no flags...

CBS does that shite with LSU. When there's a down change or LSU related stat update they use a yellow splash and its infuriating because you automatically think it's a flag.

Fox also highlights yellow/gold around the Saints logo so it always looks like they have possession

Just flipped over to the ND/Cincy game with no ticker and it does look nice and clean

They do it intentionally to trick your brain into thinking a flag was thrown (even if for just a split second) because it keeps you paying attention to the screen on the wall rather than the screen in your hand.

This x 1000. It’s a relic of the 90’s and it’s pointless now.
