Has any team ever won the Superbowl with a highest paid receiver in the league?

Or how about a highest paid anything besides QB, D-line, or CB?

I wouldn't pay Mike Thomas more than 16 mil.

Im a fan of the Patriot's model. Dont pay anyone shite except for your all time great QB/Coach.

Jerry Rice was the highest paid receiver in the NFL when the 49ers won the Super Bowl in 1994. LINK

What % of the Salary cap was that? Compared to today?

Well that’s not the patriots model, because they pay their all time great QB shite money.

I agree with the premise, but I'd still pay it in this case. He's still only 26 and Brees (and his contract) are likely done after this year. He'll be the face of the offense w/ Kamara and a safety blanket for a young QB.

It was a little under 10% of the cap, todays top receivers get a little over 10% of the cap.

The 94 Niners did a number of creative deals that year though, bringing in vets on low guarantees with big bonuses for winning the Super Bowl. When they did those bonuses rolled over to the 95 cap which is why they didn’t resign Ricky Waters or Deion. Pretty sure they closed that loophole in the next CBA.

Was worth it obviously. Carmen Policy TYFYS.

I just love how easily it flips for some people

MT has maybe the best statistical start to a career= “this guy is amazing, elite, super humble, great player and person I want him here forever”

MT a couple months later “hey guys can I get paid”

“WOW WHAT A SELFISH DIVA, BREES MADE YOU WHAT YOU ARE AND YOU WANT MONEY???? I WOULDNT PAY HIM”

Paying a QB or any skill position big money is suicide in terms of probability to win it all.

Go look at the highest paid QB’s last year and how many of them missed the playoffs.

Cowboys will soon have to pay Prescott and Cooper big bucks too.

No one with the last name Mahomes has ever led a team to the Super Bowl, ergo the Chiefs would be warned NOT to extend Patrick Mahomes once his rookie contract is up.

Tbh with teams going with the RB by committee approach as well as more efficient scouting/drafting, it’s entirely possible to overpay at other positions and still win.

demaryius thomas when Denver won SB50 was amongst the top 3 iirc. Calvin has that mega contract then after him it was Dez and Thomas (I remember this because of the Broncos and Cowboys getting fined for colluding to purposely keep the WR market down when extending both players).

The Saints Talk has like a five page thread and 99% of the posts say to pay him.

On the one hand it is true that these guys don’t touch the ball and are more at the mercy of other people than some positions.

That said when Brees retires you’re going to need a safety blanket for whoever so i don’t know why you wouldn’t pay him.

The wild thing is that Dallas has handled their cap extremely well over the last few years and will have the third most available cap space ($74 mil) in the league entering the offseason.

We would have plenty of room to sign Dak, Cooper and Zeke with a decent amount of space to spare if we wanted.

Sidney Rice was up there the year Seattle won
Think Thomas was too the year Denver won

Its kind of silly to box it in to “highest paid in the league” because as soon as MT signs, 2-3 other WRs are going to top his deal in short order
