In late February, a rumor spread online — beginning on YikYak then moving to Twitter before eventually being discussed on The Pat McAfee Show — indicating that Mary Kate Cornett, a totally unremarkable (in the sense that she’s just a regular college student with no fame or celebrity) freshman at Ole Miss University, had slept with her boyfriend’s father.
The fake story become popular on the “Burnerverse” on Twitter before eventually making its way to Pat McAfee’s desk, who then discussed the story on the February 26 episode of his nationally-televised show.

Have there been any new developments in this story? I'm still not convinced what the truth is. Were the texts and pictures all AI?
Edit: One thing I'll add for McAfee: he didn't say her name. Just said that an Ole Miss girl slept with her bf's father.

If she does sue him, ESPN’s attorneys will be able to depose her, her boyfriend, her boyfriend‘s father, all of her friends and sorority sisters, and anyone else who might have any knowledge of how and why this rumor spread. So if anything did go on, many people would be put in a position of committing perjury and going to prison as a result. Something tells me they’re just looking for a quick settlement and have no desire to actually file suit.

I hope she wins multiple times over against as many people as possible. Not necessarily McAfee, but the people that started the rumor need to be hurt big.

Hopefully this will be the first big case where people get fricked by that. You can’t just lie on the internet when it actually harms someone over it.
