He won 3 Super Bowl with 3 different QB’s and 3 different cast of players

1982
1987
1991

He 100% does not get the credit he deserves. He was ground and pound with Riggins then high flying with the Fun Bunch. Dude is no doubt a top 5 coach of all time.

Truth…he won super bowls in strike years and with the least talented group of QB to ever win a SB.

Great coach. But Joe Theismann and Doug Williams were legit good QBs.

Hardly…Joe Theismann will never be in the HOF and Doug Williams had a career losing record as a starting QB. Add in Mark Rypien and you have arguably among the worst QB’s (along with Dilfer) to ever win a SB.

He's also won 5 NASCAR cup championships as an owner.

Yeah he's definitely got a case for being the greatest sports manager of all time if not the best NFL coach.

He used to run in the business park where Joe Gibbs Racing was years ago. I’ve seen him a couple times up there.

Great executive mind and leadership skills. Would have been successful in literally any field.

One of my favorite NFL films clips of all time, the 4th down against the Dolphins in the SB.

Here comes the diesel!

Big picture yes. In a vacuum, based on individual seasons, or games in Williams case, not many qbs were better in those moments.
Theisman rode defense and the power running of the era. Managed well ala Bradshaw and Aikman, neither of which were elite qbs no matter the narrative.
Williams was as hot as can be in that Super Bowl along with Timmy Smith. Pick any team you want, none were beating them that night.
Rypien had one of the better seasons you'll ever see from a qb based on what he was asked to do in that era. Again, pick any team you want, that Redskins team wasn't losing that year.
Career wise none were above average but in their moments, particularly Williams and Rypien, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone that would've performed better than they did.
Credit to Gibbs and that front office. They built machines. He's up there but as with Shula and Noll before him, was it great coaching or the systematic effect of the league at the time, no free agency, lifetime contracts, etc? Credit due for evaluating and putting the squads together but the fact they couldn't be broken up has to factor when talking GOAT. Could they do it now with interchangeable rosters and salary restrictions? Doubtful. But who'd have thunk the Patriots and Chiefs could do what they've done. The system is designed to prevent it.

He had a game for the ages in Super Bowl XXII but he was not a great QB. He finished with a career completion percentage under 50% and threw 100 TDs to 93 INTs.

That doesn’t mean he wasn’t good for a time especially under different rules and strategies. Not every player that isn’t a hall of famer sucked fyi.

nonsense.

Gibbs is a top 5 coach imo but the league was not nearly as QB centric in the 80s and early 90s. In that era (Gibbs first stint with Wash was 1981-92) outside of Montana none of the HOF QB won. Other SB winning QBs were Plunkett, McMahon, Simms and Hostetler. Theisman Rypien and Williams are on par with those
