ESPN, Joel Klatt, and Mel Kipper did Cam Ward & Dart so dirty. All the years of watching the draft is probably the first time I didn’t see an interview from the #1 pick from ESPN. NFL network let him have one but that was just so odd and not right. Kipper embarrassed himself last night and I’m sure Bill Tobin is smiling in his grave.

I would love to go back and rewatch to see how many times Kiper said the words "Shedeur" or "Sanders"

As the young folks would say, my guy is cooked... Kiper has always been an embarrassment, and I'm not just talking about his hair

Wasn’t Kiper the one attempting to claim Jimmy Clausen was a first round QB then he slid to at least the 3rd or 4th?

Someone claimed he had pumped Clausen as a favor to his agent.

I don't really have a strong opinion on Dart, we shall see. I'm just glad they passed on Sanders

I think Dart is going to be the Giant's version of Zack Wilson. Dart's not overly impressive relative to other QBs taken in the last few years and I think he will crumble under the pressure/scrutiny of the NFL. Especially in NYC...which is a FAR cry from Oxford, MS with a program largely out of the national spotlight (even when good).

That said, I understand why a team would choose him over Sanders. Sanders isn't a bad player. But he not good enough to overcome the outside distractions that come with him. Deion is a double-edged sword. On the one hand he's hyped Shadeur to a level where if Shadeur were anyone else we wouldn't be having a discussion of him being potential first round pick. However, on the other, Deion is outspoken and won't be afraid to criticize a coach/organization who doesn't do exactly what Deion thinks they should be doing with Shadeur. And NO ONE in the NFL believes Deion wouldn't try to use his notoriety to perhaps try muscle his way into coaching whatever NFL team Shadeur ends up with. Taking him in the first round is not worth the aggravation that comes with it.

Haven't listened to a word Kiper has said since he ripped the colts for drafting Faulk - then Polian got on air immediately afterwards and put Mel in his place - then Faulk has a HOF career

Mel knows racism is going to be blamed for the reason Sanders didn’t go higher.

Mel is trying to be on the record saying Sanders is a top QB. My guess is if Mel were a GM he would pass on Sanders as well.

That’s wasn’t when they drafted Marshall Faulk, that was when they drafted Trev Alberts 5th overall. Alberts ended up only playing three seasons in the league.

Shedeur Sanders never faced top opponents. He has a twitch in the throwing motion. He doesn’t have the headspace to be an NFL QB. Dude is entitled AF.

Both of yall are right and wrong

The Colts had the 2nd and 5th pick that year. They drafted Faulk and Kiper was critical of it. He later in the broadcast softened on that. But when they drafted Alberts (over Dilfer) Kiper then really went off. Bill Tobin then preceded to go off on the "Who the hell is Mel Kiper" bit.

Kiper was wrong about Faulk but was right about Alberts.

Yet the #1 overall pick was a black QB

Someone just tweeted this:

Shadeur Sanders is what happens when media get caught in an echo chamber of each other. Almost like cheating off each other's tests. The GMs never had him "falling." He was always less than a Rd. 1 prospect.

I worked in the media for close to 50 years. He’s in the bullseye with his first sentence.

If you look at all the social media conversation, not just from the media but from average schmucks, the rub is:

1. Dart, a white guy, was picked over Sanders.

2. Him not going in the first round was an attempt by the boss men to cow down and bring into line a proud, confident young athlete who ain’t gonna take no s**t off anyone, is going to strut his stuff whether anyone likes it or not and intends to be the one in control of his situation, not the boss men.

Straight up said that if Clausen wasn't a successful NFL quarterback that he would retire.

Not one draft analyst had anything negative to say about him. It was all, he’s the most nfl ready qb in draft, can make every throw, no issues. All bc of his name, not play.

That’s definitely not true, but I do get why it felt that way to you.

Here’s Orlovsky yesterday:

Funny enough Deion called him a hater for it, when all Orlovsky was doing was fairly critiquing Shedeur.

This year's first round was a refreshing difference from past years, especially the one where the Colts drafted Richardson as their QB of the future, and he's been a massive flop who can't stay healthy. A few teams had picks that didn't fill their primary need (hey, Bengals) but overall, passing on Sanders, and not reaching for Dart, were the right calls. That said, I'm sure some team is going to reach to draft Milroe in the 2nd and regret that in a couple years.

How the hell is defense not Cincy's primary need? Stop with the St. Jeaux martyrdom.
