MLB Outrates NBA in 14 of 17 shared U.S. markets in local TV ratings

I know MLB is a local sport and NBA is national etc. but this is still a little surprising to me, especially some of the margins. Bay Area, Cleveland, Miami were the 3 outliers.

Not surprising. Baseball is a better sport.

MLB > NBA > CFB > PGA > Kabaddi > NFL

Baseball has always done well in local markets
Its nationally televised regular season stuff that sucks
And people are finally realizing the NBA is garbage and only 2-3 teams a year have a prayer of winning.

Looks to me people like to follow winning teams regardless of the sport.

And a small market team on the verge of 3 straight playoffless seasons in the Cardinals leads the league.

Major League Baseball continues to rank #1 on television in the local markets where teams play, according to prime time ratings and viewership totals....
When just accounting for cable, MLB ranks incredibly for the networks that air teams. Just four teams (A’s, White Sox, Angels, and Mets) do not rank number #1
The reason those 4 teams aren't #1 is because the Cubs, Yankees, Giants, and Dodgers are tops in those markets.

And if they have winning teams in both leagues they choose baseball. See Red Sox vs celtics

You’re right.
It’s the 1st and 5th best at watching their teams on TV. Print the shirts.

Best of the best, no excuses needed here like other places with 2 teams. Again, stats don't lie.
Why you so salty today bro? This is a good thing for MLB, 2 small markets are thriving at the top of the league even without success the last couple of years.

Not sure how many times we have to go through this but baseball is as good of a regional sport as you’ll ever find. They do phenomenal TV-wise in their respective markets.
And they’ve come to accept this and own it. We’ll never see Mickey Mantle type hyped players again but baseball is doing just fine.
