know we live to hate on Lebron James here, but has a player ever lived up to the hype places on him from such a young age?

Probably a bit of that and drafting kids out of high school was still rare. Before Garnett in 95, you had to go back to 1975 to find a team taking a chance on someone fresh out of high school (Darryl Dawkins, Bill willoughby)

eta: I guess you can count Kemp since he never played in college but he was a year removed from hs before going pro

The only one limping away is father time.

LeBron James vs. notable NBA players in the age-39 season
Via Stathead (age is decided by a player's age before Feb. 1 of that season.)

LeBron James 2023-24 25.1 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 7.4 apg

Karl Malone 2002-03 20.6 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 4.7 apg

Michael Jordan 2002-03 20.0 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 3.8 apg

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar 1986-87 17.5 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 2.6 apg

Reggie Miller 2004-05 14.8 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 2.2 apg

John Stockton 2001-02 13.4 ppg, 8.2 apg, 3.2 RPG

Robert Parish 1992-93 12.6 ppg, 9.4 rpg, 1.4 bpg

Dirk Nowitzki 2017-18 12.0 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 1.6 apg

Grant Hill 2011-12 10.2 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 2.2 apg

Tim Duncan 2015-16 8.6 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 2.7 apg

By the way, King James just shot a career-high 41.3 percent shooting from 3-point land in his 39th year.

So if Lebron plays at age 46 and scores 2 pts, he has more points than all players combined in history? What a useful stats.

That would kinda make sense except he scored 25pts per game this year

Yep.

LeBron was in the right window to jump straight from HS rather than be forced to attend between 1-3 years of college first.

A lot of other guys who could have done so had a lot more wear on the tires as a result.

I look forward to seeing his greatness in action tonight. What channel is carrying the Fakers game?

playing in college isn’t the reason why those guys didn’t reach heights like this. A college season is what, ~40 games? Lebron went from hs to an 82 game grind not including playoffs.

He did. But deep down he can’t catch up to MJ’s legacy, and he’s trying to fill the void with stats at this point. Lebron fans know this too. That’s why they try to shove these stats down our throats because that’s all they can do.

The human body is also capable of less as you age.

21 seasons at age 40 (drafted at 18) is different from 21 seasons at age 43-44 (drafted around 21-22).

How do you think Lebron is going to do at 43 season 24?

Considering all the “rejuvenation treatments” he gets every offseason? He probably sticks around until he has something pop which is a career-ender, like Kobe and his Achilles.

He really should be wrapping it up but I see him sticking around until he physically can’t make it on the floor anymore.

Lebron is the leader by age as well by a good margin.

I don’t like LeBron. He’s a hypocrite, self-important, try hard who can’t be coached and has probably caused himself to miss out on championships because of his big headedness.

But you have to be impressed by his longevity and accomplishments in the NBA.

Now it’s not all natural, but at least he’s aging forward instead of in reverse like Tom Brady.
