I really hope it doesn’t pay off for them.
Taking these games off major networks I believe will be a huge mistake for them.
You either have a younger group who have all these platforms who don’t care near as much, or the generation like myself who in in their 40s and have other important things they can to do other than being forced to join a platform to watch a select game or two.
Takes interest out of the following games because people weren’t able to follow the games on the particular platform that the NFL is in bed with.
I think they will find this hurts the interest level moving forward and may even hurt viewership for the SB.
Bold move Cotton let’s see how it pays off for them.
There are principles and the NFL and these platforms are really just fuking with us now.

I’m sure millions have signed up for Prime Video to watch TNF & millions will now pay $5.99 for peacock to watch a playoff game.

You should have realized that the NFL doesn’t care about fans years ago.

NFL makes money off of TV deals. These one offs are a money maker for the NFL. It doesn’t matter if anyone watches or not, it’s how marketable is the game to a network.

The NFL moves games to overseas even though the fans have to pay full price for season tickets they can’t attend.
NFL creates Thursday Night football which is a terrible product that increases injuries and many fans can’t attend or even watch.
NFL shows playoff games on streaming network a lot of people don’t.

They don’t care about fans, they care about money.

Are there other games other than the KC/Miami game on streaming networks? Or second round games on Peacock as well?

No chance it effects the Super Bowl. If KC or Miami is in the SB, nobody is going to be saying "Yea I'm not watching that game since their round one game was on Peacock."

They have enough money to test the waters and see if this is a good move for them. Thursday night is obviously working out just fine for them on Amazon. Even though the majority of the Thursday night games this year were trash.

I long for the old days where there were no streaming apps. You just pressed “power” on your remote and then could zoom around the channels by entering the channel number right into the remote without having to go to a channel guide, and there was no “loading” or buffering. What we have now with dozens of different streaming services is an atrocity.

NBCUniversal streaming service Peacock has agreed to an approximately $110 million deal with the National Football League that will allow it to carry a playoff game, according to The Wall Street Journal, marking the first time an NFL playoff game will only be available nationally on a streaming service

quote:

The Peacock playoff game will be featured on Saturday night of Wild Card Weekend, the first weekend of the NFL playoffs.

The game will come weeks after Peacock has its first-ever exclusive stream of a regular season game in a Dec. 23 matchup between the Los Angeles Chargers and Buffalo Bills in primetime.

As with all games broadcast nationally either through streaming or cable networks, it can still be watched on over-the-air television in the markets of the two teams competing, which will most likely be an NBC affiliate, NBCU executives told the Wall Street Journal.

The deal will only be for one season, according to the Journal.

I think the Prime thing is different because most people can justify using the service for other reasons if they do in fact like goods and service.

When all these services started popping up 5 or 6 years ago I said it would just end up as a less functional or navigable version of cable for the same price. And that’s exactly what happened. Lame

The NFL speaks about helping “Communities” and disadvantaged people all day then puts their games behind a paywall.

I don’t care enough to sign up for another service to watch a playoff game but many of their fans will want to watch the game but won’t be able to afford it.

The hypocrisy is troubling.

That’s what they are …the olds days. As much as we like things to stay the same, it’s inevitable that they change.

Do you have a link to support that?

I’ve never been a NFL season ticket holder, but with the two college programs I am you make a fixed donation (would be psl for pros I guess) then only buy tickets for the actual home games. In LSUs case, that’s only 7 games when they have a neutral site game like Orlando last year or Las Vegas this season.

Personally, I find it too much trouble to watch TNF with Prime so I forget about it. Don't miss seeing the games either.

These yahoos need to realize there are millions of casual fans who are not willing to invest more into viewership. When ratings fall off, TV deals will too.

This right here.

Your post is spot on and didn't even mention how the refs overextend themselves in the modern NFL so often that it makes it hard to watch.

I've mostly stopped caring about the NFL for a while now. I'll watch it every now and then. It's nice to watch on a slow winter Sunday, but if I have something else to do I won't go out of my way to try to watch a game.

I’m not doing it. Can afford $6 but not a fan of
Either team. Like the Sunday ticket, not paying another fee to watch NFL. I guess if they ever go full pay per view I’ll just look at the scores on ESPN. Even as a cowboys/ panthers fan, Not as attached to NFL as college football.

Doesn’t it come free with Walmart+ and American Express cards?

They’ve no doubt projected what kind of fan attrition this peacock maneuver will lead to, and decided to move forward with it.

Your TD rebellion won’t phase the nfl.

Not sure why so many feel entitled to “free” football content. You’re already paying for the network games.

I guess you can join for a free trial I’m sure, but not worth messing with it for me anymore.
