Yeah it’s certainly not surprising, that just popped up on ESPN.

I still question the strategy even though I like Penix …

If you think Cousins has 5 good years left the pick is idiotic.

If you don't think Cousins has 5 years then the signing was idiotic....

If Cousins sucks, they will be drafting in the top 10 again in which they can pick up another QB. They must believe Penix is a generational QB which means they should have never signed Cousins to begin with.

The stereotypical Falcons fan who still wears a Michael Vick jersey isn't going to like that statement from the HC.

Morris can say this on the evening of April 27 in the year of our Lord 2024 AD, but if I’m Cousins I am going to at least be subliminally looking over my shoulder especially if the Falcons are doing what I expect them to be doing this fall. Although maybe they’ll surprise me.

He’s 35 and his contract is 4 years.

Would it have been more ideal if he was 36 on a two year deal, Penix was 21, and Atlanta would have been able to trade down and get Penix at the end of the first/early second? Yeah, that would have been better, but that’s not the hand Atlanta had.

Atlanta has a 35 year old QB and the opportunity to take a QB they love and project as a franchise QB. In a league where QB is everything and you see some franchises spend 10+ years wandering the “need a QB” desert, it was a good move.

That's definitely true but every fanbase would put the starter with no cache built up on a shorter rope if they draft a QB in the top 10. It's another reason why this is nothing like the Packers. Favre and Rodgers had put in years so Packers fans wouldn't call for them to get benched after a bad game. Cousins has done nothing there.

He has 100 million reasons not to look over his shoulder, to do so would be crazy

It was a terrible pick no matter how you try to defend it. Both negatives on each outcomes far outweighs the positives.

True, but here’s a question … say the Falcons absolutely suck this fall. Do you suck with the old guy you’re paying the megabucks to or do you suck and give your future some reps?

My philosophy on QB's is far different than most nowadays. The thing now is we invested a 1st rounder in him, he is going to play and play early if not right away. I am different, I think the high fail rates of QB's is partly because they are thrown in the fire too early. What is wrong with bringing a guy along slow?

On a different note the Falcons will fail because Raheem Morris is a terrible coach, he proved that in Tampa.

We are of a similar mindset. The scenario I presented was basically devil’s advocate, would reflect panic. But again what franchise are we discussing?
