From teamrankings.com
Just posting this because it was a topic for playoff selection. Thought some people might want to see some numbers. Boise St is an embarrassment at 70, IMO.

Top 8 teams are SEC, and 9 of the top 10.

Georgia, Bama, Texas, UF, OU, South Carolina, LSU, Ole Miss.
Rounding out the top 10 are Ohio St and A&M.

SEC has 13 of the top 20 schedules.

Playoff teams SOS
Georgia 1
Texas 3
Ohio St 9
Vols 11
Penn St 16
Oregon 18
Notre Dame 21
Clemson 23
AZ ST 35
SMU 41
Indiana 42
Boise St 70

SOS for SEC teams in playoff:
1, 3, 11
avg 5 and mid range is 6

SOS for non-SEC teams in playoff:
9, 16, 18, 21, 23, 35, 41, 42, 70
avg 30.6
mid range about 40

Teams on the bubble that didn't get in, Bama and Ole Miss, SOS 2 and 8 respectively.

Gap between one and 3 must be enormous. Texas had a cakewalk sec schedule compared to some

A interesting tool to us for betting but those #’s don’t seem right. Indiana only played 3 of the top 11 teams in the big ten with a garbage non conference, there are certainly 42 teams that played a tougher schedule.

Exactly which is why Alabama should use it's influence to get a Texas like schedule

Well we will see how much SOS matters when it comes to the outcomes of these games, if they're close and competitive then they don't matter as much as we think they do but if it gets out of hand fast then this will be corrected for next year's CFP except for Notre Dame. They're locked in every year now with that NBC money.

Damn they should do an SEC only playoff

Maybe like a round robin type format

And then the top 2 teams can play at a neutral site

That way we know who the best teams in the conference are

Then they can go play the other best teams in the other conferences

If only

Yep.

People better get used to this because precident is set. Want to get in? Don't lose more than 2 games.

If only they had beaten the weakest conference opponents they faced, they might have both been in the playoffs. Though maybe Bama only got blown out by the second weakest and lost to the third weakest.but beat the weakest.

It's almost like who you lose too also matters.

Save us the BS.

We saw TCU get 65 hung on them and two years later they are inviting Indiana who doesn't have a victory against a team in the top 40 and SMU who have lost to all the best teams they played including a B12 team who didn't make their conference CG.

This is a as dumb as saying the Steelers shouldn't make the playoffs because they lost to the Cowboys and Browns.

This isn't our old college football and we already know everyone plays wildly different levels of schedules

Who you beat determines how good you can be.

People always seem to forget that TCU beat Michigan in the semifinal game. They deserved to be in the playoff that year.

Texas with a SOS of 3 shows how big of a joke that rating is. They literally played 1 team with a pulse all season and lost both times.

So weakest schedule in the SEC by far plus 1 extra game vs UGA bumps them to #3?

What kind of genius came up with this calculation?

Such a ridiculous post that it could only be written by a Bama fan. Completely ignore our dog shite losses. Only look at our wins.

As it should be… you can’t lose 3 games plus don’t play in your conference championship game and have a gripe about not being included

Having a weak SOS doesn't mean that you are a bad team, it just means due to the lack of information the outcomes of your future games are harder to predict.

For example, Indiana handled most of their games easily and then lost to Ohio State. Because they lost to the only "good" team on their schedule, does this mean that they are a "bad" team? If Georgia played Indiana's schedule, the outcome could have been similar with them handling everyone except Ohio State relatively easily and then losing to Ohio State by a few scores (they lost to Ole Miss by 3 scores). Could Indiana be a good team? Yes. Could they also be a middle of the road top 25 team? Also yes. We just don't know because they haven't been tested.

This has been an overrated metric this season. The difference in power ranking between team 15 and team 45 is like a field goal. Every team not in the playoff outside of a handful is essentially the same team.

What’s harder?

Playing the middle 12 teams in the country or playing the 6 worst and 6 best?

Which schedule should be considered more difficult? Add a round game to Michigan and I don’t see what’s so crazy.

What does this have to do with Texas?
