I’m not even a WM fan, but they just won a title in baseball last year and they got swept by Catholic to begin that season as well. I think they’ve won 2 titles in 3 or 4 years and played for 3 or something like that.

In football they got beat in the quarterfinals by Central and Central won it all.

Catholic beat the brakes off Central in football too. Catholic didn’t even make the final in select.

D1 non-select is the equivalent of 3A or 2A in the old format.

There’s definitely a gap between Select and Non Select at the top classes. It’s not BS that WM might have the top staff in the state for Non Select. All 3 starters are committed.

Catholic scored 15-9-8…

Here’s a question after seeing this. Why isn’t soccer separate? Last time a non select team won was 20+ years ago I was told this week.

In baseball nonselect has way more depth… we’re already penciling in Catholic lol but the middle and bottom of that division is bad. The NOLA Catholic League teams aren’t as great as they should be

The worst two sports as far as Private school advantage are soccer and volleyball. Neither are split.

Wrestling is even worse… no public school has won the highest classification since the 80s and it’s dominated by Jesuit, Holy Cross, and Brother Martin

Jesuit just won it again yesterday and them, HC, and BM have each won it like 20 plus times now. We set a school record with 141 points to finish 7th, just barely behind Dutchtown for the top public school, and it still wasn’t half of what Jesuit got

What's your overall top 5-10 teams?

I will rank softball teams again, but I don't think I'm ready to try baseball.

We finished the first week 1-3… scoring 1 Monday, 0 in the first seven innings Thursday (3 in the 8th inning), 2 Friday, and 2 Saturday. Hopefully we get it together but our team with a lot of our backups from last year is struggling at the plate early on

I’m not sure how that’s measured.

WM had a great record last year. They won non-select. Didn’t they go 1-5 against private schools? 2 of the losses weren’t even D1 or 2. The win was a 2-1 score.

I need to ask my brother about it. My nephew is a senior at CHS but I never really cared because I went to AJ before Katrina.

Way too early

Barbe has a solid lineup, but not the arms it typically has, but Cecchini will get every ounce out of them by season’s end

CHBR is going to be 1 on any list. Live Oak turned heads with the Barbe win and with Pruitt and Cooper they have some star power. Saw they did lose a close one though.

Thanks....how far back would you have Opelousas Catholic, STM and Teurlings Catholic? Do you think LCA is as good or even better than those three Acadiana-area teams (with A. Celestine on the mound, they would always have a fighting chance IMO)?

IETA I've been keeping up with Southside pretty closely. They brought back most of their team if i recall correctly (that is a risky proposition, though).

Catholic NI has great pitching. Iota. Notre Dame and Erath (the Bobcats were the team I was forgetting about that should be stellar).

OC will be great in class. No way they have the arms to really compare with the higher classes

PBHS will have the arms, but can they score enough? I know the Teurlings kids are legit and Brooks will have them there in the end

I have not followed STM, but do get info on CHNI, who won a close one over Southside. I plan on attending the Southside at OC game Tues. i’ll holler at you if you make it.

i would have it

catholic
live oak
sam houston
west monroe
barbe
rummel
Sulphur

as far as 5a/div 1 after first week. Live oak is fricking good, really really good and going to be hard to beat in any 1 game.

Sam houston is young. Their 8/9th grade classes are dumb and they are getting a ton of transfers in from all over. I think they will dominate for a couple years.

WM will be fine, they are playing long game, everyone is freaking out when they shouldnt be.

Barbe is stuggling with arms after Littleton. With Alexander still not pitching they dont have the depth of years past. But by seasons end, they will be fine. I can tell you it was a wake up call for sure especially with how they struggled to hit top pitching.

as far as STM and TC.....I haven't seen STM play but TC has arms but they struggle to score.

STM is div 1 now soo they will have to compete with catholic, Jesuit, rummel, curtis etc so gonna be tough

TC, ED White, VC will dominate div 2.

St Louis, ND, UHigh, Parkview will dominate in Div 3 but there are others that could make noise too.
