Mel has to defend the fact he ranked him the #1 QB and the nfl scouts completely disagree with him. He’s gone way over board in doing that. Just take the L Mel.

The NFL has known Mel been a fool for 40 years. Nothing has changed this year. He's just arrogant to the max.

He was up there beating his chest he was right about Dan Marino, who he ranked 18th in 1984.

Is he drifting toward Olberman level insanity?

What he actually said is that the NFL has no idea how to evaluate QBs. That's absurd.

I don’t fully disagree with that. It’s so so hard to evaluate QBs, but he doesn’t do it better than anyone else.

To act like his opinion is more valuable than all 32 teams is insanity.

The players he hypes up bust as much, if not more than average.

He had Sanders as the "best player" remaining for what, 100 picks straight? Amazing he knows better than the draft rooms of every NFL team.

When Sanders washes out in a year or two will anybody go back and ask ole Mel about his 2025 draft board?

Exactly. Say your piece. “I don’t get it. They got him wrong. “

Leave it at that. The rant sounds like Brad Pitt in Moneyball. “You think you know but you don’t.” When he bitches at his head scout.

If Mel were lucid he’d just sit back and wait. If he’s wrong, it all goes away. If he’s right he can remind people forever. Now all Mel can hope for is memes of being Deion and Shedeurs bottom.

That opinion, while arrogant makes a little sense. I don't agree, but it's conceivable that he's a good evaluator.

He guaranteed jimmy clausen would be a hall of famer. He’s just as bad or worse than they are

This is the equivalent of the 30something travel ball mom who had too many gin and tonics sitting in tiger stadium calling Brian Kelly an idiot.

The icing was when he said that for forty years NFL owners, coaches, and GMs have had no idea how to evaluate QBs, but he, the Guru, can.

I’m convinced that Mel would not be happy unless the whole draft was based on his picks. He could just deal em to the teams like a Vegas dealer.

Slightly-better-than-mid Shedeur Sanders is one hell of a hill that Mel has decided to allow what’s left of his career to die on.

It does appear that in recent years the NFL is actually pretty good at getting it right as well

There have been some misses but given the unpredictable nature of the position and how people will respond they've hit on a lot of the early round picks

The Tom Brady arc is a rare one. Most great QBs were drafted high. Rivers, Brees, Rodgers, Burrow, Allen, Daniels, Williams (I'm confident he makes a leap this year), Herbert, and the list goes on. Of course there are first round misses like Trubisky, Russel, Rosen....but you know what a lot of those misses have in common? The players had attitude issues. Jamarcus didn't fail because of lack of raw talent.

This was a completely idiotic take. Idiotic. NFL scouts can screw up. They can interpret data in a different way than their peers, to their detriment, because human beings tend to do that. But Mel Kiper doesn’t know more than they do about assessing quarterbacks.

He’s dying on this hill because he missed so badly on this one and he fears he’ll have no credibility … and a smaller income stream … moving forward.
