It’s fair to say him & Ilia are both doing the same thing.

They’re tired of the weight cut & moving up for a title shot.

If it’s really Topuria vs Oliviera at 317, then Islam will get the winner of Belal & JDM.

Except Islam is clearly making his decision in response to Ilia. If it weren't for Ilia moving to lightweight and calling Islam out, Islam would be staying at lightweight and fighting Gaethje or Charles or Arman next.

Instead Islam is supposedly being told to fight Ilia or move up.

If he vacates the belt instead of fighting Ilia, people aren't going to care if Islam's reasons are valid, they're going to say he's running / ducking.

Then if Islam moves up and Belal retains the title, it's going to be a very weird situation.

He might end up fighting his friend Belal instead of smesh-humbling this little matador who's been crossing the line with his trash talk?

This is a crazy and unprecedented situation in the UFC.

The cut is hard, and he's been given short notice fights/replacements and already allowed the 145 champ to challenge for his title twice. A third situation like this doesn't move him mentally through this camp/weight cut again. Ilia defended his title once. Makes sense that Islam staring down his legacy as champ being 145ers x3 and renato moicano sucks compared to double champ status.

then why was he such a pain in the arse to deal with back then?

Wasn't it as simple as Ngannou wanted to box (and collect a big check) and Dana didn't want him to box?

Ngannou hasn't been doing much in PFL it terms of fighting. He's had one fight.

Ngannou could probably still come back for one more mega fight in UFC vs Jon Jones, if they bith wanted it.

it’s Aspinall vs Cyril Gane for the interim belt

Yahoo Sports confirming that Jon pulled out of the Aspinall fight. You must strip him at this point. The optics of forcing Aspinall to defend an interim belt twice at Jon’s whim are awful and indefensible.

That's still just a write up that says "Chael Sonnen said..." I'm still hopeful.

It’s karma for Dana fumbling the bag with Ngannou/Jones. HW would have been set for years if he would have got that done
it's hilarious that you think Jones would've accepted that fight.

Netflix said they aren’t interested. But maybe it’s just posturing.

It’s gonna be interesting next couple of years for the ufc imo. There is a mass exodus of big name fighters that will be out in the next 2-3 years…. And it doesn’t seem that the cupboard is as full as it once was with marketable fighters.

Regardless of what some people think, it’s hilarious that you think Jones would turn down a fight against anyone

I'm ok with that. He can just drop the belt then.

It makes sense for what Dustin wants to do. Chance to go out with the BMF belt
