What is the worst contract in sports history.

Off the top of my head the Albert Pujols 10 year 240 mil with the Angels and Chris Davis 7 year 161 mil.
Chris Davis was legitimately one of the worst hitters in all of baseball after he signed that contract, and couldn't even finish playing through it.
Pujols managed some decent seasons for the Angels, but there was a significant decrease in production.

Anthony Rendon’s current contract with the Angels. He can’t even get on the field. I Believe he got 240 million over 10 years.
5 seasons with the Angels, Games Played
52 Games
58 games
47 games
43 games
19 games so far and on IL.
Has yet to go over a season of 10+ homers or 40+ RBI’s with the Angels.
It was 7 years for 245 million. Even worse than I had thought.

The Mets organization would say Bobby Bonilla.

The worst in a different way may have been Chris Webber's rookie deal.
They signed him to a FIFTEEN YEAR deal, but: It allowed him to leave after 1 year if he wanted to
He threatened to exercise it, they traded him and got squat

Yikes, Rendon getting 38 mil a year to not play or suck. That has got to jump to the front of the list.

Mike Trout is averaging about 70 games per year since signing his 426 million dollar deal.

Pujols isn’t even the worst contract in Angels history. He had a few decent years there too.

Deshaun Watson will be in this discussion when his time in Cleveland ends.

Pat Mahomes. He is getting shafted by kc. Guy just bending over and taking it

Mahomes is the face of the NFL. If he had a bigger contract their roster wouldn’t be as good. He gets a ton in endorsements which evens out

It wouldn’t have been stupid if they were getting legit investment income instead of getting paid off by Bernie Madoff as part of a Ponzi scheme.
Bonilla was getting paid regardless but they thought they could make more money investing than what it would cost down the road. Not so much since they had to pay back Madoff’s other victims.

I think it's hard to top any of the really bad contracts that are currently in sports, but the Mike Hampton contract given by the Rockies back in 2000 or 2001 was horrendous for the time. I think it made him the top paid player in the game at the time and he posted a 6+ ERA in a couple of years before getting traded.
