Why Do So Many NFL Teams Not Have Permanent Indoor Practice Facilities?

Watching the Arizona Cardinals Amazon show and noticed how they practice in a bubble, which most all NFL teams do also. I think NE has a bubble they never use, the Redskins bubble deflated last year because they got too much snow, Charlotte used to travel to a private indoor facility in North Charlotte because they had nothing on the premises, and I remember when one of these collapsed in Dallas a couple years ago and might've even killed a guy. So why don't they have permanent, well built facilities?
This baffles me why NFL teams still use these things when 90% of the big time College teams have a nice big permanent indoor facility. Hell half of the SEC seems to have nicer facilities than most NFL teams. I know they don't have to recruit, but you'd think when teams make that kind of money, they'd at least have a real indoor facility.

I too am watching the show and had this exact question

Because they don't have to build them to lure recruits, as you note. And owners are penny pinchers. They're paying those guys enough that they can stop by wally world on the way to practices and buy some hand warmers.

100% this
and while practice at any level is important, on the field practice for NFL guys is also not that important comparatively to college..

Pats don't use theirs much because they like practicing in bad conditions. I'd assume other teams do the same

Yeah, I knew that about the Pats, but I think very few teams intentionally practice in garbage weather all the time like NE, guess that's why Brady is the best bad weather QB ever.
It still seems very old timey on the owners part to be this stingy in a $13 Billion league. I mean this isn't Comisky in 1919 giving his team flat champagne and you could buy the Chicago Cardinals for $5,000. Owners were renound for being cheap then, but now with the hundreds of millions each team makes every year, you'd think they could at least spend 6 or 7 hundred grand to build a facility that doesn't fricking collapse in wind and snow and potentially kill people. ...But then again I guess the NFL is only concerned about protecting its players when they're being sued for $1 billion.

NFL = more time with position coaches, film study, etc
college = more technique instruction, teaching the game, rah rah morale boosting, etc

Owners can't convince taxpayers to pony up for a practice facility.
Colleges can get them built because there's always rich boosters hanging around trying to buy influence and access.

Even ULL has a giant facility. That always baffled me. I remember watching the Bengals Hard Knocks and they were practicing near a bridge

Who you think is gonna pay for these Indoor practice facilities???
Unless the team can get taxpayers to foot the bill, the team isn't gonna spend money on that. Or I should say the owner of the team will not spend money on that.

Now that Dallas conned Frisco into helping out with theirs* it'll be keeping up with the Jones' (literally in this case) and teams will start getting them over the next decade after it has been up and running a couple of years.
You will see a lot of articles like this and everybody will have to have one:

*Actually I looked it up and Frisco and the schools only kicked in $90m (or maybe $115m, no story has the same number) out of $1.5B so that is a great ratio comparatively for these things. It will cost more than the stadium. It is a bold new venture but I am not sure every metro has a Frisco. That place is really out there in terms of springing up out of nothing.

That frisco Dallas Cowboys complex is unreal
Saw a special on it the other night and they said most likely the combine will move there. It has a high end hotel AND a top notch hospital connected to the facility. Said prospects coaches doctors and scouts never even to leave the building.
It's amazing.

Even though I live here I don't like the Cowboys and Jerry Jones irks me (just a personal quirk), but even I will admit his is a visionary, maybe one of the greatest of our time.
kind of wish he was working on something other than sports and making himself a lot of money

It seems to me Jerry will just bounce around Dallas area towns and build facilities anywhere he can rip off the local taxpayers. Do Arlington citizens get half of the Cowboys profits? They footed half the bill for the stadium…

Belichick despises the bubble.

I have wondered this too. Doesn't make sense

Now that Jerry has shown the league how this practice facility complex can work AND make money, everyone (mostly) else is going to follow suit.
The Frisco Star will host all Frisco HS football teams for games. All the teams in the city of Frisco don't even have to leave the city limits for a district game. Just think about that...
18k fans will watch upwards of 3 or 4 games every fall weekend between Thurs - Saturday. Hell, Frisco can now even create their own AFL team to play there. If they paint the field for soccer, rugby, & lacrosse, the place will essentially never close year round...
The money will roll in, over time, & be a profitable entity before too long.
The top 1/3 of the League will follow suit.

They're just waiting on a bond measure to pass so the stupid citizens pay for it instead of the team owners.

Frisco ISD also has carte Blanche use of Toyota stadium in the heart of Frisco. It's a district that has definitely benefited from the growth up there

Hell a lot of SEC and major college teams have better locker rooms than the Chiefs. Been in the Chiefs locker room, nothing fancy. Like you said Big time Div 1 schools have to recruit, so they make their facilities very nice.
