They need to have some sort of developmental league because they are cutting a lot of very good players

Problem is they can barely sustain themselves as it is now

Those cut players will likely end up in foreign countries to continue their development

They need to get rid of the WNBA draft since it's nothing but a farce to begin with, maybe treat it like a supplemental type draft and if teams know they don't have space on their roster they can not draft anyone

You think the answer to a league being shitty is to spin off an even more shitty league?

If most firsts are getting cut, the goddamn draft doesn’t need to be three rounds.

ESPN does its best to make a big deal out of who the #1 pick is, but you never really hear who went 2, 3, 4 etc.

The fact that they have 3 rounds.

What% of 3rd and 2nd rounders make the teams out of college?

probably for the best if they are cut. They can go get a real job and actually make money instead of playing "basketball" and not making much money.

How much were these players compensated for their short time in the league? Anything?

is there a wnba union that can collectively bargain?

reduce the draft to just the teams that did not make the playoffs?

1 round 10 or 12 players

the rest are free agents

i believe the nba should do this as well- reduce draft to just 14 picks.

They don’t sustain themselves. They’ve never made a profit and in fact lose $10 million every year. The league only stays in business because the NBA subsidizes them.

Yep, Chelsea Dungee, was like the 4th or 5th over all pick and barely made it a season. She's now an assistant for Troy. She was our best player in a long time.

Wow, the league must be the elite of the elite if first round picks aren’t good enough. Each game surely is a display of the human form at maximum achievement, right?

WNBA needs to expand rosters and NBA needs to put money into League to help finance it as investors or make owners invest more revenue into operations. NBA owners make enough to finance the WNBA

Is there any data out there for the G-League to see their revenue compared to the WNBA?

I found some attendance numbers and the higher G-League teams appear to be around the WNBA average but the G-League cities are usually smaller cities than the WNBA.

Throw more money at something that's not making any money? Brilliant.

frick you we live in a capitalistic society
The NBA is the only reason the wnba exist without financial assistance from the NBA the wnba would have be defunct after year 3.
Tell people who claim women can do this and that to start buying tickets and jerseys and then it will expand and more players will have a opportunity.

What% of 3rd and 2nd rounders make the teams out of college?

That's a good question. This article shows that about 50% of the draftees make the cut over the last two seasons

quote:

As of Wednesday morning, 18 of the 36 picks from the 2023 draft appear on WNBA rosters. Last season, just 17 of the 36 picks from the 2022 WNBA draft made opening day rosters. And many teams still have cuts left to make to fit under the 12-player maximum by Thursday’s roster deadline.

Putting together a couple of articles, this is what I found for recent cuts.

Kayana Traylor, 2nd round
Alexis Morris, 2nd Round
Ashten Pretchel, 3rd round
Abby Myers, 1st round
LaDazhia Williams, 2nd round
Taylor Mikesell, 2nd round
Brittany Davis, 3rd Round, Ms. Irrelevant
Monica Czinano, 3rd round
Brea Beal, 2nd Round
Destiny Harden, 3rd Round
Jade Loville, 3rd round
Madi Williams, 2nd round
Elena Tsineke, 2nd round

That count is only 13, but based on those numbers, I think its more correct that half the players drafted don't make the team, not half the players drafted in the first round. By those sources, the percentage making it by round is
1st 91.7
2nd 41.7
3rd 67 %

Sources LINK and LINK

If the first item is correct, we need to find 5 more players, and that will drive the percentages down a bit, but it shouldn't put first round over 50%

It’s almost like those of you calling for the wnba to cut their draft completely haven’t been paying attention to the social climate for the past decade

Can you imagine the fake outrage that would happen if this went down?
