Phil Hartman as an egomaniac talk show host, and a young Joe Rogan playing a young Joe Rogan.

One of my favorites. Dave Foley is underrated in it. I loved the scene where he is watching Green Acres in his office:
"Did you know that there were six Arnold the pigs? This was number three. Not my favorite."
That scene really showed the influence that the absurdist humor of Green Acres had on News Radio. An interview with Dave Foley:
"TB: I have to ask this… Do you really like Green Acres?
DF: I love Green Acres. And I don’t love it in a campy, “Ohhh, it’s soo funny,” I love it on a legitimate respect for it as a great work of comedy. I think it is one of the most tightly and imaginatively written shows ever done on television. It was messing around with structure in a really inventive way. They were setting up these incredible absurdist jokes and running jokes in every scene, weaving them in and out.
TB: Very much like Newsradio does…
DF: A lot like Newsradio does. I think it’s been a big influence on the show. And the other thing they do on Green Acres that people don’t notice is that everybody in that show plays it deadpan except for Oliver. Eddie Albert was the only guy that went over the top. Like Mr. Ziffel is really low-key and Eva Gabor was really deadpan… None of them ever pushed a joke. Eva Gabor might be commenting about the credits coming up at the end of the show, but she wouldn’t be goofy, she would sound sincerely interested in why the credits were appearing. They played everything like it was real, which is the only way you can play it in absurdist comedy."

And Andy Dick still won't go away.

I had the hots for Maura Tierney. Her and Rhona Mitra look similar.

I'd put Jimmy James pretty high on my list of favorite TV characters.
Bill VS Dave in the walking cane wars was phenomenal.
BTW: I pretty much lived through that first episode where Dave is hired and his first job is to tell the guy he's replacing that he's been canned.

I used to watch Green Acres reruns all the time as a child, but I don't really remember many specifics from the show. Need to re-watch.

DB Cooper hiding in plain sight.
Jon Lovitz has always blamed Andy Dick for Phil Hartman's death. I forget his reasoning, but he's adamant about it.

Lovitz put some blame on Dick for giving Hartman's wife coke the night that she killed Phil. She had apparently been 10 years sober up to that point.

One of my all time favorites. I miss Hartman.

Hartman's wife was f-ing nuts. Maybe she did get Coke from Dick and it led to her breaking, but she was simply a ticking timebomb and everyone knew it. Hartman wouldn't divorce her because he didn't want to tarnish his wholesome image.
In the end he was basically too nice of a guy and she killed him for it.
Newsradio (the Hartman years) is an all time underrated sitcom. It's up there with some of the best stuff NBC did in the 90s.
I'd say it's basically right under Friends and Seinfeld and Cheers and Frazier, in that Wings category. (the two shows are basically the same concept except in different settings. They both kind of copied the Taxi and WKRP model.)
Once Hartman was gone, it was over. I loved that show as a kid. I'd just leave the dial on NBC on Tuesdays and Thursdays and watch every show in their primetime lineup.

Either MeTV or AntennaTV - not sure which - are showing re-runs now. I’ve set my DVR to record them. Can’t wait to watch them - I haven’t seen any episodes since the the show’s original run.

TIL Vickie Lewis is a fairly big deal on Broadway.

I can't imagine the life he led with her. It must have been a nightmare. Brynn was fame hungry but had zero talent. Phil tried to help her break into the biz to no avail. I think she resented him for his success. It's easy to blame Dick, but it was only a matter of time before that ticking time bomb blew. And with her kids in the house, no less.
Here's a picture of their daughter, now. She was 4 when Phil was murdered.

Andy Dick is a nut. I may, or may not, have driven down the road after he tried jumping through the truck window
