Aliens on Toy Story vs Minions on Despicable Me

So the Minions appear to be a blatant rip off of the Toy Story aliens. Is there no legal recourse for this? The Minions are the best part of Despicable Me and they are animated plagiarism.
Yeah, they look a bit different but their speech and mannerisms are pretty indistinguishable.

I feel like these minions are everywhere. I've never seen Despicable Me. However, I do enjoy just about every pixar movie ever made. Is this one that I should watch? What's the big deal with the minions?

This isn't Pixar. It's not even Disney. But, it's well worth the watch, especially if you have kids. It's pretty good even if you don't have kids.

They are almost completely different. They look different, as you noted. their speech patterns are completely different, as the aliens speak English and the minions speak their own gibberish language. The aliens act like a hive mind or at least like a big cult, worshiping the claw. The minions are all fairly distinct individuals, and lean towards total anarchy. I don't see any similarity at all, honestly.
