Conan the Barbarian 1982, perfect?

Is this a perfect movie? I don't think it fails at anything it tries to do, and also co-written by Oliver Stone. I grew up watching this movie and I believe even though I have seen it for almost 40 years, I have taken it for granted. Sure there are some technical failings and some sound dub issues but that is a product of the time. I think it may be the perfect movie.
ETA: I also believe it is a master class in sound track composition.
ETA: I meant to put co written by O. Stone. Thanks.

And also Milius, epic score by Basil Poledouris.

Wholeheartedly agree. Without a doubt a solid 10.
In 2000 (I believe) the Conan soundtrack was voted No. 12 of all time!
Don’t remember who ranked it thus but I can agree.
The melodic “theology/civilization” and “love/wifing”themes are great as is the choral chanting of the “orgy”.
And, how can you forget the Mongol chieftain ask “Conan, what is best in life?” (Watch the movie for his reply.)
And then there is this classic quote that I use on my own daughters: “There comes a time, thief, when the jewels cease to sparkle, when the gold loses its luster, when the throne room becomes a prison, and all that is left is a father's love for his child.” — King Osric the Sotted. (Max Von Sydow)

Stone may have co wrote it, but the entire ship was driven by Milius. Basil made into a film of epic proportions.
Simply put, it's a masterpiece of cinema.
Every casting decision is also perfect.
Sandhal Bergman you believed as a legit
Badass theif...(and she made lots of little boys feel lots of ways).
Von Sydow nearly steals the movie in 5 minutes with his Shakespearean powerhouse.
But James Earl Jones cannot be left out as one of the best villains in cinematic history. The Star Wars fanboy can have Darth Vader, I'll take Thulsa Doom.
The Riddle of Steel

The opening scene with William Smith cautioning young Conan about the “riddle of steel” sold me right off.
Then the tattooed scout, the introduction of Thulsa Doom, the wheel of pain, and the unforgettable Casandra the Witch. (Had dreams about her.) and of course, one of the best sidekicks of all time — Subatai the Archer.
Damn, will have to watch my Blu-ray copy again this week.

My favorite scenes in a film full of incredible scenes:
Palace Battle
What gods to you pray to?
Atlantean Sword
And of course.. That which does not kill us makes us stronger

Probably my favorite film of all time.
Beautiful.

Great lines, but my favorite will always be the simple one uttered by Rexor during the Palace Battle:
"You."

It is a great flick, for sure.
Shame that "the Destroyer" wasn't nearly as good.
Anyone else here ever seen the very derivative Russian flick, based on a novel series, called "Wolfhound"? That's a damned good sword & sorcery type movie as well.

No such thing, but this film had a lot to offer - Milius, prime Arnold, Vader as the villain, shot well (Duke Callaghan goes from being Sydney Pollack's DP to mainly a TV director in the 1970s, Adam-12 and near obscurity before Conan, then went on to do great things on TV again with Magnum PI and Miami Vice), great score, surprisingly good dialogue at times (and for such a product during that time). I thought the costume department even did a great job.

Fantastic film. Masterpiece.
Used to joke about assembly line factory work and "the Wheel of Pain"

I remember seeing him break his leg trying to carry a refrigerator on his back during The World's Strongest Man. He didn't win.

Sad that I cannot even remember this one - but we did see Conan the Destroyer several times.
I most remember a scene with Conan breaking mirrors and the princess.

Great movie. Was 11 when it came out and you talk about a bunch of kids loving life in the theater.

I will always love me some Olivia d'Abo.
