Damn shame Hacksaw Ridge wasn't enough to get Mel Gibson back on the map.

He made bloody as all hell battle scenes but still with a ton of heartfelt and feel good moments.

I know a lot of folks are probably partial to Braveheart but its not even close for me.

Doubt he had a big pool of guys wiliing to be in it but again he nailed it. Garfield and Vaughn were perfect and Worthington was solid enough.

I challenge anybody to find a better war film since this released in 2016.

He's had plenty of acting jobs since then, mostly in smaller movies. Dragged Across Concrete is really good.

Should of worded it better. I feel like we missed out his directing.

To come out rusty as hell and make that i just can't help but wonder.

I know he kept acting but at least we got Hacksaw, Braveheart and Apocalypto

I’m a huge fan of Hacksaw Ridge , but arguably All Quiet and Dunkirk is better.

It's a shame he had such a struggle with alcohol, because that man should be considered one of the most dynamic figures Hollywood has ever produced.

I just like the tenseness created by the scenes and the interchanging stories all happening at once. I can see how some people wouldn’t like it though, it can be slow and there isn’t a lot of dialogue.

While Mel is not exactly a darling of the Hollywood studios, Mel also wants total and complete control when he directs a film, and while he's earned that, a major studio is nor going to hive him that.

So that's why he basically finances all of his films now himself and has to go to Australia to shoot them in the cheap. He also, however, gets to keep almost all of the profits of his films, which, in turn, gives him the ability to make other films.

It just takes much much much longer to get these kinds of projects off the ground when you don't have a major studio and it's workforce and connections behind a project.

I just want an old man Mad Max in the Wasteland. That would be a monemtmally great film because Mel, while being 70, still has all the charisma and vibrance that made him such a global megastar.

It's a shame really, but enjoy what we have gotten. Braveheart, Apocalypto, Passion of the Christ, and Hacksaw are all things that would not have been made without Mel.

Dunkirk isn’t on the same level as the All Quiet on the Western Front or Hacksaw Ridge.
