Best known in the scifi community for shows like Quantum Leap and the remake of Battlestar Galactica

Ironically watched the last 10 minutes of married to the mob where he's the antagonist.

That movie is a disaster btw.

And about a million other credits, like Dune, To Live and Die in L.A., Blue Velvet, The Player, Married to the Mob and a million TV credits, including both eras of The Twilight Zone.

A true lifetime veteran actor whose credits go back to being a child actor in the 40's.

And yes, Al with his 57 ex wives. Godspeed, Al.

Loved that guy. Saw they were talking about a Quantum Leap remake. Dean Stockwell made the original what it was...awesome.

You are so fricking wrong, Married to the Mob is a brilliant film perfectly crafted by Jonathan Demme. You might have heard of him, The Silence of the Lambs, Philadelphia, ring a bell?

Might me Matthew Modine's finest work, and Michelle Pfiffer is a dime. Pfiffer in huge 1980s Jersey housewife hair might be sneaky the best Michelle Pfiffer.

Blue Velvet is still the most haunting movie I've ever seen:

Baldwin at his best as a douchey Guido.
Stockwell nominated for an Oscar and racking up other awards.
Breakout film role for Mercedes Ruehl, who killed it.

Watched him and Joel McCrea in 1951's Cattle Drive one night last week.

[/img]

He's great as the snot nosed son of a railroad owner that gets lost and joins a cattle drive. It steals a little from 1937's Captains Courageous, starring Freddie Bartholomew and Spencer Tracy, but so does every movie about a greenhorn kid learning from the best man at his trade.

You know he was already a huge child star to have his name the same size as McCrea's and Chill Wills' on this poster. By 1951 he had been in over a dozen films.

Stockwell is one of that dying breed of "been in bad shows, never gave a bad performance" category of actors. We don't get actors like him every day.

Scott Bakula's statement:

quote:

I met Dean at his audition for Quantum Leap in 1988. He had agreed to ‘read’ for the Network, I was already cast. We connected immediately and my career and my life were changed that day in Brandon Tartikoff’s office. How lucky were we to get him? A few months later he would be nominated for an Academy Award for his role in Married to the Mob, but he was stuck with us. Serendipity? All I know is, he never tried to get out or complain, he loved the role and the show and the rest was history.

He became a dear friend and a mentor and we grew very close over the next five, very intense years. Dean was such a passionate man…about life, his work, his art (he was an amazing artist!), his family, all kinds of causes, people, music, the planet, cigars, golf, and on and on! Having been a famous child actor, he had a soft spot for every young actor who came on our set. He was very protective of their rights and safety and always checked in with them to make sure that they were ok. His big hearted response to the kids made all of us take notice and be better guardians ourselves.

In spite of having a career that came and went several times during his seventy plus years in the business, he was always grateful and delighted to have the chance to keep working. The only time he ever complained was when we called him on the golf course and told him we were ready for him to come to work! He used to announce his presence on the sound stage (if we hadn’t already caught a whiff of cigar smoke trailing in behind him), with a bellowed, “The fun starts now!” Truer words were never spoken.

I loved him dearly and was honored to know him. He made me a better human being…
