Samba TV estimates that the season premiere of The Mandalorian was watched by under 1.5 million households. If that number is accurate, it would mean that it was watched by 2% fewer viewers than The Book of Boba Fett premiere, 25% fewer viewers than the season two premiere of The Mandalorian, and 28% fewer viewers than the premiere of Kenobi.

The Book of Boba Fett was horrible, that probably spoiled some people on the Mandalorian franchise. Also, the new preoccupation with Mandalorian lore including never removing the helmet (which is just ridiculous) is probably turning some people off. The show was fun when it was mainly an adventure of the week, only loosely collected to an overall narrative. I blame Filoni. Pretty soon the only viewers will be people who also loved the animated shows.

Disney is boring, formulaic, and dominated by woke writers and producers. There's too much input from too many people and too much effort put into appeasing special interests groups (GLAAD, BLM, etc.).

There’s so many more options now to stream quality OC than there was for seasons 1 and 2 of Mandalorian. People are watching other stuff. We’re also not locked down or reduced social stuff so people are watching less TV

quote:

It's important to begin by stressing the context; The Mandalorian season 1's premiere was essentially the flagship show that launched the entirety of Disney+, explaining its cultural impact and high viewership. The Mandalorian season 2 released mid-pandemic, meaning viewing figures were up because people were under lockdown. The Book of Boba Fett was likely bolstered by the inclusion of a legacy character. In the same way, the return of both Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor meant Obi-Wan Kenobi felt like essential viewing, an important part of the Skywalker saga itself.

But MTV board would rather blame “woke Disney”

Having episodes that spend 75% of time on two former Empire goons with no direct attachment to Mando doesn’t help either.

I didn’t read the article but are they counting just on the release day views?

I imagine most people are just busy during the week, I for one just watched the first three episodes yesterday with the family (spring break week).

As other people have said there is just a lot of other things available to watch as well as real life events.

Sorry the government doesn’t have us locked down anymore Disney

It's too soon to say whether these figures are truly significant, however. It's entirely possible viewers plan to binge-watch The Mandalorian season 3, and viewership will skyrocket when the season has come to an end - particularly given last season saved its biggest moments for the finale.

Unclear when the numbers are til, but I plan to watch like this. Too many things I can binge watch and keep up with the continuity better instead of setting aside time every week for a longer payoff

Like I pointed out and the article pointed out. But this board and Nerdrotic and all the other angry nerds will try to point the blame finger at Kennedy and woke Disney instead of the obvious context. Can’t wait for SE Kidju to post an angry Nerdrotic video with no context about this

That’s because they have proven they can make an amazingly written and acted adult drama with Andor and now expect us to be happy with a show made to sell baby yoda dolls.

This right here. While watching the last episode I kept asking my wife why an episode of "The Mandalorian" had very little to do with the Mandalorian.

Disney isn't going to change the wokeness, they're only trying to find ways to help their viewers digest wokeness better.

That’s because the doctor storyline was intended to be part of the Gina Carrano Rangers of the Republic show. But since that got canned they had to move it to Mando. The ultimate goal of all the Filoni Star Wars shows is to explain how the Emperor was cloned in a hopeless attempt to salvage the sequels like clone wars improved the prequels.

I"m actually surprised it's done so well. I tried making it through the first season, and it's just boring.

The mandalorian is that Hercules show from the 90s but with more skin covered and trendy cameos

Every episode is like show up to some new place for no reason and help these people that are getting bullied

Mandalorian is the only series I’ve watched or am excited about on D+ since Loki.

I haven’t watched an episode on it’s release date since the first season.

They made a huge mistake of putting him in Boba Fett and having Grogu and him reunite in THAT show instead of having that be a plot point in Mando Season 3. HUGE mistake.

And now Mando’s character journey for Season 3 has already been solved. Looks like it’s Bo Karan’s show now
