I know…”what the hell took you so long to watch this series!?” Various reasons. My question is why is “Pine Barrens” considered the best episode of that season and possibly the series? It was good, but “University” was a much better episode. Thoughts?

Pine Barrens was great and unique but not my favorite. College and I Dream of Jeannie Cusamano were better.

Because the Internet is an echo chamber and people want to be part of the crowd. Its become such a common trope that people just mindlessly go along with it for fear of being ostracized.

Pine barrens is not anywhere in the solar system of being the best sopranos episode.

There’s so many great episodes of that show that it’s hard to rank in order. That one is definitely one of the most memorable (and funniest) of The Sopranos.

"Join the Club" and "Long Term Parking" may be the best episodes for me.

Pine Barrens is obviously the funniest.

I hate Pine Barrons. Don't know why it gets so much love. Behind all the dream sequence episodes, Pine Barrons would be my next least favorite.

I agree with you. It's a good episode but not my favorite. There's so many others I enjoy more.

Pine Barrens is one of those episodes that has a much different impact if you are watching the series in real time week-to-week, compared to binging it and watching multiple episodes that day.

Believe Steve Buscemi directed Pine Barrens. Unique and hilarious.

Because it’s unique, hilarious bottle episode that still pushed forward character development and storylines. But in the funniest way, this episode was basically a sitcom.

With that being said I think the very next episode, Amour Fou, is the superior episode.

My favorite is the one where Tony/Carmela/Bobby/Janice go to the camp

Eh, it's definitely not as good watching it now for the first time as it was watching as it aired. And that's not the show's fault; it's mine. But it felt very dated to me when I watched. It's very good, but nowhere near GOAT status for me, as it is for a lot of people who were with it from the beginning.
