The movie never says specifically where Justice is from. I guess they wanted to keep it murky on purpose, but he would obviously be Sheriff of Bowie County, which is the Texas side of Texarkana.
His car says Montague County, which is a few counties west of Texarkana. They had already been chasing Carrie for a while until her car broke down and she met the Bandit.

The fact that they are passing through Fayetteville is not germane to the situation.
The god damn Germans got nothin' to do with it.

Screw you! There are ZERO flaws in this American treasure!

I want to know how he snuck up on those guys stripping that car without them hearing him.

quote:In the 80's, I got pulled over by a Texas Trooper, on I-30, near Hooks. My friend in the passenger seat had a quarter ounce of coke on him. We had been snorting it since we left Dallas. Yep, I was riding dirty, and didn't know one of my headlights was out.
Bowie County runs like 30-40 miles west from the line and includes Texarkana, Hooks, New Boston, and DeKalb, which are all 3A-4A type Friday Night Lights towns.
The trooper had me come sit in his passenger seat, while he ran my license. As you can imagine, I was a little nervous. I decided it would be best to try to have a conversation, instead of just sitting there, looking paranoid. My football knowledge came in handy that night. I asked him if Hooks wasn't the hometown of Billy Sims. He told me Barry Switzer came to visit Sims regularly. Said they'd go drink beer somewhere, and said sometimes he went with them. By the time he finished writing a ticket for the headlight being out, he told me the judge's name to send a copy of a receipt for the replacement headlight in lieu of paying a fine.
After I got back to the car, my "friend" got his coke out of my glove compartment. That's another story for another day.

I always chuckled at that. They don't hear or notice him drive up. They don't hear him pop his holster. But all three do hear him close his Zippo.
Hal Needham didn't worry much about reality or continuity in his movies.

why are they running a roadblock in Fayetteville?
That’s the route you have to take to get a great Diablo sandwich

His movie sets had to be fun AF and full of behind the scene debauchery.

Actually this detail is a BIG deal.
The entire movie is based on the premise of the beer getting to Georgia within a deadline. The route they take takes them several hundred miles out of the way. If they don't go through Fayetteville, they don't have to speed as much. This is a really big deal as this detail wrecks the entire movie. Don't y'all care?

Well that wrecks it for me. I’m definitely not going to see it now. I may wait for it to come on HBOmax depending on ratings.

As I pointed out in another thread, the existing Interstates in 1976 (when filmed) would have taken them through Memphis and Little Rock (they took interstates there and highways/byways back until they got to GA). So not as out of the way as the representation in the OP depicts
