Glen Garry Glen Ross: some holes in the plot.

I've been streaming this on youtube as background noise to my workday for a few weeks. Great movie, great cast, let's get that out of the way. HOWEVER, some of the dialogue is nonsensical.
Example: Alec Baldwin says "they don't walk on the lot lest they're wanting to buy." Nobody is coming on the lot. The salesman go out to call on the prospects.
Jack Lemmon's shpiel to one of his prospects about the consultant offering him money for a sales promotion. Convoluted story that makes no sense.
Moss trying to convince Aronow he's an accessory before the fact just for listening.. WTF even is that about?
Williamson going to the bank every night to take contracts. What's he going to do at the bank at 11 PM?
Williams talks to MItch and Murray then turns around and tells Jack Lemmon he can't call them because the phones were stolen.
It's supposed to be set in New York but it uses Chicago place names.
Really grinds my gears.
And Pacino drops into his Tony Montana dialect once in a while.

Both Pacino and Deniro stopped acting sometime in the mid to late 80s. They just played louder or quieter versions of themselves.

This movei and Tin Men (Richard Dreyfuss and Danny Devito) are my two all-time favorite sales movies bar none.
If you haven't seen Tin Men give it a watch. It's great.

I'd throw in The Big Kahuna.
DeVito's soliloquy at the end is worth the price of admission.

I always assumed this was salesman talk for the fact that the “leads” were people who showed interest in some way. Maybe stopped at a display table and put their name and number down, or checked a box on a questionnaire, etc.
I also assumed it was an exaggeration about the level of interest the customers showed.

I think that this was supposed to show Lemmon’s mastery at using bullshite to confuse and overwhelm his customers, probably old people.
Remember that this is not a kind portrayal of the sales profession. This isn’t a playbook or a how-to manual. This movie is saying, “Hey look at these high pressure assholes taking advantage of people and fighting each other like sharks going after scraps.

But the prospects filled out a card. That's "coming on the lot".

Moss is a degenerate liar (they all are) who was just trying to threaten him into doing it.

This I didn't get, but I assumed in the big city and in the 80s there was some way to do this.

I think it's supposed to be in Chicago (the play is) and they shot it in NYC and included obvious NYC references in it for some reason. This is a legit issue.

Yeah there are no protagonists in this movie. They're all degenerate liars and pieces of shite.

The only problem I ever had with the movie is Ed Harris should have taken Baldwin's watch off, thrown it out the window and said "Now it's worthless, just like your frakking leads".
End of movie.
End of movie.

Banks used to have an after hours commercial night deposit box, typically around the commercial drive through lane. It wasn't automated like an ATM, but often a secure drop you could fit large deposit bags into. Usually this was for businesses wanting to safely deposit cash, but I got the movie made it clear these contracts and checks were to processed ASAP to keep sales from being canceled.

I assumed he was placing them in the bank's night depository

GOAT movie cast.

The magnificent cast referred to it as, "Death of a fricking Salesman."

This is probably the reason you don’t understand the film. Go back and actually watch it and you won’t continue to make these mistakes.

Exactly. It's not literal, it's figurative, and actually refers to people who go to AUTOMOBILE lots (new or used).
And he's right. Why else would you go to a car lot unless you're looking to buy? Why else would you send in a card or or respond to an ad unless you are looking to perhaps buy?

Jack Lemmon gave a performance of a lifetime in it.

None of these are plot holes. These are all examples of you not understanding the plot and or words. Huge difference
