There was also a time when boobies in a PG movie were no big deal.

Rated G for the rest of the country.
Should've been R for the "Holy shite, that thing's near me?" states of Louisiana and Arkansas.

Because in the 70s kids weren’t bitches.
Realistically though, G used to mean “general audiences” and wasn’t necessarily for kids. It’s also likely because to see a movie in the 72 actually took some effort. You had to see it in the movie theater, or had to have the film (VHS didn’t come out until 76).

Living in Bienville Parish, we straight up thought that thing was roaming around Lake Bistineau.

Dude, they had us watch Ol’ Yeller in school - like 1st grade.
Talk about not being prepared for that level of emotional turmoil.

"Watcher in the Woods" Was shown to us in 3rd-4th grade- still remember being terrified of the woods by my house afterwards.

Same here - I was nine years old. We were living in Jonesboro (Norht LA) when I saw the movie and had the opposite result - couldn't sleep peacefully for weeks. I had a nightmare that it was outside my window, and after that I had no problem sleeping.

The bathroom is the one room where you couldn't "not be alone". Scared to death after that movie, and your next shite you're locked in that bathroom staring at the window.

In it's defense, '70s bush was pretty inescapable.

And you were correct.

They had us watch “watcher in the woods” when I was in 3rd grade while parents were doing parent teacher conference. 5th and up watched “the blob”

Boggy Creek and Amityville Horror are the only movies that ever scared me.

They used to air movies like The Exorcist, The Amityville Horror, and Salem's Lot on regular TV networks back in the day.
