Morris Day is the best actor in the whole frickin' show. I mean honestly, the acting is so unbearably bad, the movie borders unwatchable.

And the script? Oy vey with that shite man, it's bad. Real bad.

When you think about it though. The movie and it's success really is a testiment to how magnificent the music really was. Because with a lesser soundtrack, this movie and Prince himself becomes a punchline.

When Prince performs The beautiful ones, you forget how campy and utterly cheesy everything in between really is.

The guy was a Great American for sure.

The first time I ever saw the movie was only a couple years ago... And I was floored.

Yes it's basically one long music video, but it's about the best music video ever produced.

I was always a fan of the album, particularly Purple Rain (obviously), but I never knew the tie in to the movie as to why he sings it.

I found the film oddly emotional, especially the final performance. No, Prince wasn't a great actor, but the film is defiently a legendary piece of nostalgia and art that awesomely captures a shooting star right at his peak.

It's great for what it is. And the songs are just as good now.

Oddly enough, I was just watching the Price Super Bowl perfomance. I Totally forgot that he covered Hendrix and Foo Fighters for half his act, then finishes it off with epic Purple Rain performance.

You need to purify yourself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka.

Yeah that scene was so cringy, it was almost uncomfortable to watch but at least we got to see some titties though.

The Darling Nikki performance was jarring and ahead of it's time.

Yeah but the mid 80’s was the height of breastploitation in movies. And it was prince. Even as a teenager I’m surprised there wasn’t more.

I'm going to go ahead and disagree with you. The acting is actually pretty good - considering none of the principal cast, save Apollonia, Linc Hayes and the kid's mother, had any appreciable acting experience to speak of.

Now, their job was a little easier in that everyone else was playing a cartoon version of themselves, but still reasonably impressive with the dearth of acting experience, which I credit mainly Albert Magnoli and Prince for getting all of that done.

Meh. It isn't the best script ever filmed, that's for sure.

Since I literally grew up with the film, I get that it isn't a very good "film", from a technical standpoint. The acting is very stiff, the dialogue spoken by non-Morris Day characters can be cringey at times and certainly has some cheese as you suggest.

Despite that, one of the greatest musical films of all time and even more select if you wanted to limit it to musical films that defined an era and/or style. In that area, it is brilliant, almost one of a kind.

So, there's that.

Mrs. Vox just read Morris Day's book. Very interesting backstory on his character. Morris didn't know that he was the villain.

Morris felt really bad after he asked Prince "How's the family"?

The music on this album is so damned good it uplifts the bad acting to star status.

I'll argue that tracks 2-5 are the best 4 songs in a row on any album ever, and flow together as one song.

2 - Take Me With You
3 - The Beautiful Ones
4 - Computer Blue
5 - Darling Nikki

And maybe because the other songs on the album got so much air time and were overplayed, I like 2 - 5 better than the others.

And, Apolonia's titties were spectacular!

No No No.

I'm not talking about the scene.

I'm saying you, Pandy Fackler, need to purify yourself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka.

It's bad, but that's what makes it a classic. If you ever have the opportunity to see it on the big screen, do it. Watching it with an audience is gold.
