I was just listening to something and the casually mentioned being confident Ray survived.

I had never considered this even possible. I thought it was just a super bleak ending.

So, do you think he lived or died?

Supposedly there’s a deleted scene showing him living but I don’t think that should tell us anything really. Was cut for a reason

I thought it was safe to assume he died

What was the reasoning?

What a great movie. I watched it on a flight last summer and was laughing like a hyena. I felt sorry for the other passengers.

I think they just asked each other “do you think he survived” and they both said yes. They said it made sense thematically for the movie and the director’s allegory though they agreed it didn’t need to be shown.

Also, in the script I believe, there’s a version of him surviving only to later cut to black as he’s about to commit suicide asking the viewer to wonder if he goes through with it

I always assumed he survived to justify Ken's sacrifice.

The ironic ending being the guy trying to convince Ray not to kill himself ends up killing himself to save Ray.

That was also a major issue of contention. Whether Ken actually milled himself. The hosts got into an argument.

One side “Ken was going to die anyway. Shot in the neck. Didn’t kill himself as he was already a dead man walking”

Other side: “Ken was still alive and able to sacrifice himself. He may have been able to save himself. He ended up deciding to help Ray over his own drive to survive”
