Inside Out 2 - Frustration (according to Vulture)

Spoilers ahead.
So, while reading Apple News this morning - my scrolling eyes saw this Vulture article. It tells me the girl from Inside Out 2 has feelings for the older girl in the movie (and this must be her secret) and that the film is frustrating because it didn’t blatantly say it.
I’m thankful the writer is here to help me see what I should have seen, when I saw it, and didn’t see it.

Val is great. We’d all go gay for Val
quote:
In the text of the film, this is merely because she really, really wants to be just like Val. But you don’t have to squint too hard to see a subtext where Riley is so obsessed with her beautiful, accomplished teammate because she has romantic feelings for her . . .
By this point, a discerning viewer has put the pieces together: Riley’s secret is that she’s gay. (Or she’s bi, or pansexual, or just generally queer. Happy Pride!) Except, after Joy and the gang escape from the vault, the Deep Dark Secret never appears again in the main narrative. If you’re the type of person who gets out of there as soon as the credits start to roll, Riley’s secret is a Chekhov’s gun that never goes off. Frustrating!
quote:
However, years of experience with Disney and Pixar led me to believe that the movie would not leave us hanging. These companies never let an Easter egg go un-hatched. There must be some resolution, and I was determined to see it out. Surely the question would be answered in a mid-credits interstitial? No such thing — there was a mid-credits scene, but it was just a jokey little bit about the character Ennui. Quelle surprise. But by this point I simply had to know. So I took a leap of faith, which is to say I stayed sitting as the rest of the credits rolled. My persistence paid off. After the MPA seal, there was Joy, coaxing the Deep Dark Secret to come out from the vault, which one might note is not unlike a closet. After some hemming and hawing, it finally did, upon which we learned that Riley’s secret was … she once burned a hole in a rug.
I’ll admit: A tiny, terrible part of me was prepared to roll my eyes at a gay revelation. A pointedly inclusive Pixar movie? Groundbreaking. But what we got instead is just baffling. Now, there is nothing personally at stake for me in an animated character’s sexuality one way or another. But I hate feeling like a weirdo, and this made me feel a weirdo! The film’s queer coding is so blatant that I thought we were all on the same page — only for the movie to pull the rug out and say, “Why are you even thinking about this fake tween’s possible gayness?”

Saw it this weekend. Enjoyed it. Mind never went there.
I did note that there wasn't the overt gay character, which made me assume someone would be outraged.
Everyone needs their outrage dopamine hit.

One of the great tragedies in modern society is the lost non-sexual affection for the same gender. People only see relationships through the lens of sex.

If Disney didn't like grooming kids so much, few would care and Vulture would have to write about something else.

Saying the quiet part out loud.
All of this is about not making them feel like weirdos. And since that's the goal, what's weird has no limits so they will constantly push for normalcy for everything.

Val is like 13, so the writer, no surprise, is a self announced pedophile.

Nowadays, there’s no originality in print media
If something is going too well, there are people out there that just want to be the contrarian and will dig deep to just find something to bitch about.

These people are disgusting. They want to taint and destroy everything. Sex has its place and it's far far away from kid stuff.

They can't help themselves, they are deviants. The white house tranny story yesterday was no surprise . This dude pulled his tits out at the white house. Everything in these idiot's lives revolves around sex.

The writer is correct. They are a weirdo for trying to make the character gay. Every kid that has ever lived has had some person that they wished they could be and 99% of them don't want to do the no pants dance with that person.

Oh for frick’s sake, it’s extremely explicit in the movies that Riley is straight. Stop trying to groom her and kids in general.

The Alphabet Mafia is so pissed that Disney didn't throw their gay bullshite into this film that they are digging deep to put something there that isn't. I'm shocked The D did not go there, but I'm also grateful for it. I know this is an anomaly, but I'll take what I can get

Same. It was close enough to perfect. When they got to the vault scene I even told myself - ok. This is it. There's going to be a little boy or dike looking girl sitting in the corner of the vault that they are going to slowly cam over but no, nothing.
Disney had the PERFECT opportunity to sneak something in there but passed over it. I never once got the impression that the deep dark secret was that she was a lesbian or transvestite. I always assumed it was a serious lie she told to her parents or maybe she stole something when she was young.

Val is a senior, so she's probably 16.

Apparently some trans woman that was invited (?) for some pride event there pulled out their fake tits on the White House lawn. Crazy shite but I’m sure most people never heard about it
