Dazed and Confused (1993) is obviously a nostalgia flick about 1976. So is it weird that Sasha Jenson is playing a teenager (age 17) when in real life, he was only 2 years younger than Mitch Kramer was in 1976. (Jenson was born in January 1964.)

No it's Hollywood. 30+ year-olds pretend to be in high school all the time. Most of the time it's way less believable than Sasha Janson being 17.

Isn't it common for actors who aren't teenagers to play a teenager in a movie?

I just did a web search, and apparently Henry Winkler was 29 when Happy Days started.

I think Jason London (21) is way more believable than Jenson (29). Didn’t know about Winkler. I guess every nostalgia piece has to have a 29 year old playing a teenager.

There's always one or two kids who look older. Some were clearly held back, but I remember one guy who looked and acted like he could have been in his early 20's. Sideburns, 5 o'clock shadow, it was weird then and a even more weird now that I think about it. No idea what became of him though.

Stockard Channing was 33 when they filmed Grease. And she looked 33.

I never understood her casting in that film.

She made up for it for by looking good for being 56 in The West Wing.

Unless I’m misremembering, The Fonz was never a teenager in Happy Days. He was the older cool guy.

ETA: just did some googling and WTF. The Fonz was supposed to be 16 at the start? No way.

except for Wooderson

I know what you mean though. In the book about the movie that came out recently, i seem to recall Jenson lied about his age so he could get the part.

Wasn't Dustin Hoffman like 32 in the graduate? He's supposed to be 21 or 22 in that film.

Alan Ruck was like 30 in Ferris. Stacey Dash was also around that age in Clueless. Rachel McAdams was mid-20s in Mean Girls. Jennifer Grey was late 20’s in Dirty Dancing. Happens all the time.

Opposite is Laurence Fishburne in Apocalypse Now. He lied about his age, he was only 14 when filming began, he was supposed to be playing a 17-year old. Damn movie took so long to film, he was 17 by the time they finally finished!

The Andrea Zuckerman actress was already enrolled in Medicare B before she ever stepped foot in the Peach Pit.
