He seems to go out of his way to call the lead South African henchman “Adolf.”

And just look how well that has worked out for everyone.

#Wokeness has been around Hollywood almost back to the beginning. High Noon (1952) was awfully pink, just as one example.

It was just a lot more subtle, generally, than today.

Honestly, the Lethal Weapon series, as much as I love the first two movies for what they are, are some of the first to really head in that direction. I'm assuming that was largely Danny Glover, who's always been an activist.

So was Richard Donner.

Side note: Donner's casting director suggested Glover for the role, and Donner replied, "But he's black." The casting director pointed out that the character's race wasn't in the script or the character description.

Peter, he didn't really set you up for that Lethal Weapon line. It doesn't really work here.

If that's true, then that's a pretty hilarious call back for the scene with Joe Pesci in the South African consulate!

Well. It's worked out pretty fukking well for the South Africans living under apartheid. Because before that, they had no rights. Can't wait for the idiotic YouTube video you post as evidence that apartheid was super cool for everyone.

So, let's take a little breath. Apartheid was bad, period, even if blacks had "merely" been an oppressed minority, much less the majority. I want to be clear on that - APARTHEID WAS BAD.

However, was South Africa starving?

And, are white folks in South Africa being treated as well today as blacks were under Apartheid? I mean, I know you don't care, so just view the question as rhetorical.

I mean, genocide is bad. Maybe worse than Apartheid, right?

If I’m not mistaken, in LW1 there is a South African sticker on Murtaugh’s fridge for a brief couple of seconds.
I always wondered how Mel and Danny handled the comments that were leaked/recorded by Mels gf and her screwing the blacks They still friends ?
