I love smart comedians. Too bad so many of them are in the pretentious alt scene. He spans both genres so well.

has anyone ever attended this live in Austin?

it seems pretty much impossible to get tickets without a connection.

I’ve been 4 times. Once at Vulcan.

Very hard to get tickets. It’s basically a lottery. But damn, it is awesome if you can see it live. The band plays for 30 minutes or so before the show and they kill every time.

She's been doing it for 6 weeks. Those were really good jokes for being that raw. She was really comfortable on stage too.

Yes, I’ve attended a few times. My son in Austin usually gets us tickets. I think he’s on a notification list and is able to get them the moment they drop.

First episode on Netflix is available now.

Very noticeable difference in production quality. Not sure if I like it or not.

I also noticed how much better the production quality is with this episode. That wide shot in the open makes the room look so much bigger that the YouTube shots. Also don’t see the heads in the front few rows when the comedians are preforming.

You can definitely tell the last few weeks they were prescreening the bucket pulls, hardly any “things my first time” time wasters and a lot of comedians with at least a few years under their belt.

I think for Netflix they didn’t want a repeat of NYE night 1 from this last year where it was just horrible bomb after bomb first timers

goes slightly against premise of the show but definitely makes it better to watch

There are several threads on Reddit about them screening comedians before letting them sign up...seems like it recently started as you said. I'm fine with them doing this, as this show is not supposed to be for someone to "try" stand up for the first time. It's supposed to be for actual comedians. A lot of people are signing up with no experience to just get on the show that gets millions of views every week. That being said, I'm ok with them letting an audience member sign up, regardless of experience, because their odds are very low of getting pulled and at least they paid to see the show.

The production just feels off. The sound is different too. I thought the show was near perfect production-wise, so not sure why they tinkered with it so much for this episode.

So it's just a regular episode at Mothership with increased production value for Netflix?

Still not sure how I feel about the new production changes. Something just feels off.

An average episode. It was like halfway in between a normal episode and an arena show. They tried too hard to make this something special instead of just doing a normal episode, which would have been better.

But that Ron White set and speech at the end was awesome. I love that his career is still going strong.

Yeah it definitely felt off and almost like all of the comedians (Adam, Shane, Tony, Ari, etc.) were nervous on top of that with it being Netflix. That might’ve been Ari’s worst set. I get what Tony was trying to do with bringing out the big guns with Trump, Biden etc. but it felt like a miss. Hopefully the next one is better.
