Let's talk Tommy Boy, what was Big Tom thinking?

Something I have never been able to grasp, how does Beverly automatically get control of the company? Are we to assume that Big Tom Callahan left it all to her in his will and left nothing to his only beloved child, Tommy? The only other explanation would be if Big Tom had no will at all and there was an Ohio law that had everything go to Beverly, his surviving wife. But Big Tom was smart as hell and was surrounded by other smart businessmen, he would almost certainly had a will.
Luckily it's all moot as...

Your time would have been better spent checking the specs on the end line for the rotary girder.

On a side note Callahan Auto has to be one of the better fictiticous movie logo/brands conceived in recent memory.

Tommy got shares as well. He used them as collateral to buy time from the bank to go on his dad's sales trip. Guess Bo Derek just got Big Tom's shares maybe?

Yes this is what happened. But I assume big Tom had majority and Tommy probably had 49% or something slightly less.
The problem also was that the bank didn't value Tommy's shares that much because Big Tom had overextended himself in debt with the brake pad expansion and put the company in limbo when he died end he had no vendors locked up to buy all the pads.
Bo Derek was going to use her majority stake to sell off to Zalinsky, then collapse the Ohio plant and she'd make off with millions upon millions from the sale.
The real question is, did she and Rob Lowe somehow poison big Tom or was his death just a blessing to them for her to get his stake quicker? If he hadn't died, she would have had to stay married to him and just have Lowe hanging around keeping up the brother/son act for years to come.

The dude in that gif all the way to the left is the perfect office/government bureaucrat in whatever movie he’s in.

Paul : This is working out better than we planned. I thought it'd take a year to bleed him dry in a divorce settlement. Instead, the guy croaks and you own half the company.
Beverly : Yeah, but it's too bad he didn't leave me any cash. Have you talked to the banker?
Paul : Yeah. Unfortunately, your stock isn't worth dick until they sell the place, but that moment is rapidly approaching
