He gave a great interview that was brutally honest and genuine. He said he would be very honored to win an Oscar, but at the end of the day, you can't eat it, you can't f*ck it, and it can't get you into heaven.

meh, sounds to me like he's hamming it up for people who buy into his persona.
every (american) actor would die to receive an oscar. it's a pinnacle achievement in their craft. it puts them in the higher echelons of history. they desperately wanna be remembered.

doubtful
an actor of his quality, and the amount of time and energy put in to getting where he is, would make one presume that you absolutely care about being vindicated in your craft.

honestly, I don't think he gives a rats arse, sure it vindicates you, but the powers that be that operates the whole system are biased, full of crap people.

for sure, the subjectivity involved has been unfair to several actors, actresses, directors, and films.
but again, the Academy represents everything someone in the film industry works toward, especially those individuals who view film as an art and not a studio cash-cow.

that would also make you presume to know or understand a person you've never met in your life, but only seen in movies and on tv. He might care a little bit, but I doubt he really cares. The dude walked away from hollywood to be a boxer; you really think he cares if hollywood gives him an award?

What did he do following his brief stint as a boxer?

if he didnt care, he wouldn't have even shown up to the oscars. he may not need an oscar to live his life, but it is still the ultimate award for an actor to win the best actor award.

so you're saying he came back to acting to win an award?
Posted on 2/23/09 at 10:54 am to iggle
He never said he didn't care. He actually said he would be honored. He just said he couldn't eat it, screw it, or get into heaven with it.
Which would you rather have?
a. a steak and lobster dinner, sex with Megan Fox, and go to heaven.
b. an Oscar

I'm saying that from 91 to 94 he was in 8 matches.
Then he returned to what he's been doing, as a professional, for the majority of his life.
You box to win awards in gain noteriety.
You act to win awards and gain noteriety.

exactly, it doesn't represent to him as another poster said "what every actor works toward"
He'd like to have one, but it's not a huge deal to him if he doesn't get one.

You think any of the best supporting actors that showed up last night thought they were going to win...maybe they wanted to win but they went knowing they were going to lose....

B.
B could easily get you the other three.

You can't say this:
Then say this:
Because you just did the same thing you're accusing him of doing. Neither of you know Mickey Rourke, so your opinion of him and what he cares about is just as worthless/incorrect as the next guy.

quote:Maybe so, but if they're there, they want to win, whether they have a chance or not. Who in their right mind would say "I don't want to win", other than a nut job like Brando or someone?
