Film critic Andrew Freund asked Portman, who stars in the movie, if it is “the gayest movie ever made in the MCU?”

“I love that reading of it,” the actress responded with a smile. “Yes, I love that.”

“I mean, you’re flying on rainbows, or am I imagining it?” Freund asked.

“I mean, that is the core of the comics,” Portman argued. “I feel like that’s where it all started. It’s very true to the source material, I think.”

A rather rough review of the film published by The Hollywood Reporter noted the so-called queer inclusion in “Thor: Love and Thunder,” which is set to hit theaters on Friday.

Even the inclusion of queer characters — Valkyrie pines for the love of her lost warrior sister; Korg reveals that his species mates with other males to make baby rock monsters — seems more like pandering representation than anything vitally grounded in the storytelling,” film critic David Rooney wrote.

With each new article about this movie, my desire to see it drops.

I wonder when they're going to realize that virtue signaling doesn't make money

Exhibit A: Lightyear

I'll pay more than double the ticket price if there's a flashback to a love scene.

All of my excitement for this film just dissolved into thin air, like Thanos himself just snapped it all away.

In today’s society why can’t they just create new gay superheroes and leave everything else the way it’s been? If gayness and gender fluidity is so popular now those movies should be able to stand on their own profitability. Unless….it’s really not that popular…

Yep. Was going to see this like Lightyear, but now I’m just going to wait for a couple of posters’ opinions I trust to give me the rec before I see it.

That's them just making something up and not understanding source material.

Just because there's a rainbow doesn't make it gay.

That's like when Robert Downey Jr talked about Sherlock and Watson having a crush/some gay undertones to their relationship. Some of these people have no idea about the character and source they are playing.

Now that is gay

sounds to me like Portman is just placating the interviewer, who's take was that the movie was gay, while pointing out that the bifrost has always been a rainbow :shrugs: I'd venture to say on those grounds Freund is imagining it because that's what he wants to see

now the Korg thing you may have more solid ground on. realizing it's not really your point, but multiple sexes in a species seem pointless if only one is used for reproduction, but aliens, yada yada

ETA I took entirely too long to type that shite and iwy made my point with pics, dammit

It’s like assuming the entire story of Noah and the ark was some sort of gay metaphor

I wonder if she is setting up an excuse to blunt the end of her career and this film's failure. Super liberal Time Magazine just panned it. Must really suck.

So because the alphabet mafia co-opted rainbows, every rainbow ever is retroactively gay now?

Oh come on. Everyone knows the Noah and the ark story was about incest. No metaphor required.

I agree with all of this... but they did create a new gay character - America Chavez in 2011 - and this board hated that too.
