Got to give it to the John Hughes. Steve Martin's tirade at the car rental place is the sole reason it got an R rating, but was totally worth it.

Wish Martin and Candy could have done more films together. They had great comdedic chemistry.

Good timing. Just queued this up for tonight after kids go to bed. Rental scene never gets old and the reason I won't watch it on cable.

The hobo sex scene was pretty shocking, and really comes out of nowhere.

Martin and Candy had some truly great films back int he day.

Candy was one of my all time favs - Uncle Buck, The Great Outdoors and Summer Rental are movies I can never get enough of.

yet the scene would Martin returns to Candy after he realizes Candy was alone... still hits me.

A great movie.

For those who watched SCTV,

Candy killed it in the “Fishin’ Musician” episodes.

For those who watched SCTV,

One of the best shows with a great cast.
John Candy portrayed a huge number of characters - all hilarious.

Have watched PTA so many times and on my last rewatch last week it really sunk in how dark of a movie it is.

So many scenes in that movie are absolutely amazing.
Obviously driving in the wrong direction was hilarious but I alway like when Gus’ son Owen picks them up and he is snorting and spitting and then demands his 80lb wife put down the baby and “get your skinny behind” out there and help them with this massive trunk.
The look on Steve’s face throughout is just classic.
Watched with my father 2 nights ago and probably have seen in 10 times with him over the years.

I was probably 14 or 15 the first time I saw it and for whatever reason my mom let me watch it. We both laughed hysterically at the car rental scene. And my mom is a good Christian lady who was pretty opposed to me watching R rated movies.

I’m convinced that if he had lived, he would’ve eventually won multiple Oscar’s. The guy had amazing range.

They are really lucky they cast Candy as the foil to Martin. Candy being so affable as Del Griffith was key to the movie working. Neal Page was such an incredible a-hole the moment things don't go his way it would have been really hard for any other actor to be able to let Martin come across as a sympathetic character.

You Tube

Original cut was over 3 hours. This digs into the original script a bit.

Explains why they got pulled over by a Wisconsin state trooper, which always bothered me, amongst a few other things.

I thought Martin was just as good as Candy in this movie. They both nailed their respective roles perfectly. Great movie.
