Flew over that area a little over a week ago. Lots of nothing.

I always theorized she was having an affair with the dentist well before the crash

Spinoff question.
Why do we not consider Chuck Noland a marriage breaker. By the time he got back, Kelly was married with a kid. Yet, he was going to drive off with her.
How come we don't consider him scum. It wasn't his idea to stop, it was hers.
He tells her, "You've got to go back." and drives her up the driveway. I thought he accepted the fact that she had to move on from his "death".

Wasn't the actress from that scene a former country/western singer from the 90s?
Correct. She was only on a few movies. She was primarily a musician.

Google Maps location of the intersection in the final scene of Cast Away if you're interested
You map show FM 1268. It was FM 1265 in the movie, I think. Maybe I misread the street sign. Also, the TX Hwy signs look like they say 48, but she mentions 83.
FM 1265 and 83 are up in the NE panhandle of TX.

The kid was one year old, but according to OT conventional wisdom, Kelly had been banging the endodontist for years.

I just YouTubed the last scene just because I was curious.
You can see the 48 sign in the Cast Away scene. The street sign in the scene also says FM1268. My map link appears to be accurate.
Another clue is when it shows Hanks looking down 48...the 2 trees in the scene are still there. The only thing really different about the view now is the addition of wind turbines.

I mean, he is Fed Ex but that ending would just have him as a delivery-man.
IDK, i actually kind of like that.

I need to get my eyes checked. I could barely read the signs in the movie, so you're probably correct. Thanks for the link.

Well said. That's how the final scene resonated with me.

Only after she hesitated. He was going to drive off with her.

Another thing to consider is that anything ordered five years ago that didn't show would have already been replaced.
Plus the plane crash undoubtedly made the news, and the sender and recipient both would have figured out the package was on that plane from the tracking number.

Yeah she says "you're the love of my life" but then - oh well, see ya. She seems more bothered that he's back than happy. They have one tiny brief stupid reunion at night where she makes him a cup of coffee like you would do to a stranger. She says "I'm terrified" when he gives her an engagement ring before he leaves. Why? She doesn't really seem to mind that he's gone for long-periods of time.
So this theory makes sense.
Kelly Frears was cheating on Chuck Noland. LINK
She "grieved" for basically 3-4 months before she got knocked up by her boyfriend's dentist.

She grieved for 4 months, dated the dentist for two years, got married and had a kid (presumably immediately), was pregnant for 9 months, had the kid, who was about 1 year old when Chuck got back. He was gone for 50 months (December 1995 to February 2000).
So assuming the kid was 1 year old, and assuming she got pregnant immediately after she got married, she still would have waited a full 27 months after Chuck disappeared to get married. Since she went on their first date 4 months after his disappearance (per the movie), they dated for a full 2 years before getting married. That's plenty of time to dispel the claims of infidelity.

That's a good explanation.
I also took it to mean that the package, which represented hope and a purpose, had become a part of him, an appendage. When he returned to his world, i.e. his sender, he was rejected by what he knew.
When he returned the package, the final part of him that was still on its journey, to its sender, he then stood at the crossroads of life.
He could go any direction that he wanted at that point, but the package, his hope and purpose, that kept him alive for so many years on a deserted island, may now have given him a new life, hope and purpose, in the form of its sender.
A tad deep, I know.
